"Located behind an old-school barbershop, Zulema’s cooks up traditional Mexican tacos, nachos, and tortas. A counter-service atmosphere with limited seating inside and out, $9 buys three loaded tacos and a side. Stop by the salsa bar to dress that order with a choice of four different sauces climbing from mild to extra hot—plus all the accouterments tacos love including jalapeños, pickled onions, cilantro, and limes. Pro-tip: don’t skip the hot chicken taco, and be prepared to sweat." - Justin Bonnema

"Opened earlier this year in Donelson, this hip taqueria’s nacho platters come with a lot of choices: pollo asada, carne asada, carnitas, discada (a mixed meat dish), or grilled mahi-mahi, shrimp, or vegetables. Then they stack them up with nacho cheese, lettuce, black beans, pico, guac, and jalapeños." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Google
Sooo yummy!! I ordered the discada , carnitas I think(the pork one) and chicken for the kiddo. She loved it and said I should "get a job there so I could give her tacos all the time" 🤣 I don't usually care for chicken tacos but this chicken was moist so we ordered more, each order of 3 tacos comes with a side so we got fried plantains and rice, both were awesome as well definitely recommend &will be back 😊(note the chicken taco looks like that because I picked some stuff off and daughter was eating the chicken out of it as well)

Best Tacos in Nashville! What a gem for Donelson. Great food, great service, great prices and telè novellas on the tv. What more could you ask for?

Fernando Salazar

Google
Great place to get a quick bite. Small restaurant, great service, great food and they have recyclable containers. Just a great place!

Aaron Anderson

Google
Great service, great selection, great price! Definitely one of those hidden gem taco places!

I loved my huge and delicious carnitas burrito with all the toppings! I also tried the fried plantain for the first time and THAT was goooood!

I moved to Donelson two years ago and just came across this little jewel about a month ago online. Tonight I decided last minute to swing by and grab some tacos to go. I saw the menu pics online and I already could tell it was going to be good. The food was amazing. The fried plantains are an absolute must. They come with some amazing dip that I just could not put down. The portions are more than enough and I could have made a meal out the side alone. The food is all completely authentic and fresh. I got shrimp and steak tacos, and the flavors are amazing. I am so happy to have this place in our area. The customer service is amazing and the staff is super friendly. My only suggestion is for everyone to go here more often so that the owners can expand and have a larger dining area. I can easily envision more locations and maybe even an actual restaurant setting.

Google
Incredible. Great flavors, super fresh. 10/10 would taco again.

This little gem has been open for a while but this was my first time going. I picked up two fish tacos and a shrimp taco for lunch with a side of plantains. Everything was delicious. The tacos were a good size. They had the perfect amount of heat. Everything tasted fresh. I'll definitely be back to try more.

Yelp
This is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, divey establishment, but the service is prompt, and you can see the smoker going even in the abysmal Nashville summer heat. In a scheduling snafu, we quickly found this restaurant, and it was a hidden gem. You know you're in the right spot when English is not the primary language spoken by the staff or customers: it works for Chinese restaurants in my experience, and it worked for this taqueria. We ordered the birrieria tacos (of course, it's in the name) under I believe the "Quesitaco Combo Birria" and a barbacoa torta with a horchata to share. Everything is served with lettuce, avocado, pico de gallo, and cheese. There was also some roasted peppers for added spice and flavor. I needed some spicier salsa, but perhaps that can be accommodated upon request. Since we got our order to-go and we were in a rush, it's hard to say. The food is hearty, rich, and delicious. There is a private lot off of the busy main street, and the restaurant itself is pretty small. There is some booth seating, but if you're with a larger party, I would opt for delivery (with a fee from their website directly) or simply pick-up/to-go order.

Yelp
Birria y Taqueria Arandas is a small, unassuming shop that I have driven by countless times on my way to Party Fowl. Now, when in Nashville, I would recommend that you get hot chicken, but do not miss out on some of the wonderful Mexican food that Nashville, Tennessee has. Again, Birria y Taqueria Arandas is a small, unassuming place, but I have long contended that the best Mexican food comes from hole-in-the-wall type places just like Birria y Taquetia Arandas. I ordered their super burrito and chose birria for my protein. I also got a carnitas taco. The food was brought out relatively quick and I have to say that I was blown away at the size of the burrito. The thing was huge, about the size of two burritos from Chipotle and it was very good, as well. The taco was good, as well. My check before a tip was under fourteen dollars ($13.92 to be exact). If you find yourself in the neighborhood and are craving a great Mexican meal, I would definitely recommend here and I give it five stars.

Yelp
We enjoyed this hole in a wall taco place. Small location but great, authentic food with great prices. The service was fast and the food hit the spot. If you're looking for a quick taco fix this is the spot. Nothing fancy at all but it's accomplishes the mission.

Yelp
Very clean , very lively restaurant with easy road access and a lot of parking. Got five tacos, three lengua, carnitas, pastor. All traditional tacos were delicious, double corn tortilla, and good size for the price. Birria sauce was very bold and flavorful. Wide selection of drinks, including beer. I can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu!

Yelp
Love this place! The Pambazos are amazing, as is everything else I've tried. The service is very friendly as well. My favorite Mexican spot in Donelson!

Rachel G.

Yelp
Quessabirria Plate - Go Now! Holy moly what an experience. Everything was delicious. The Sopes was my least favorite thing the meat was really fatty. The pambazos was interesting (not my jam, but my friend loved it!) The Mulitas was delicious. The start of the show was the Quessabirra Plate. Absolutely delicious! The hot sauce was excellent too!

Yelp
Decently authentic with some Americanized stuff mixed in. The quesobirria is super tasty but really heavy. Don't go here if you're looking for a "light fare". Yucca fries are a must try. This isn't a "can you substitute" or "do you have a vegan option" place. Don't bother. It's a tiny little shop with a few booths. The people that operate the business are super nice and seemingly always there. They work hard. We always order about 15 minutes before they close because we are the worst, and they always take our order and keep the doors unlocked until we get there; luckily we live 5 minutes away. Great go to for more authentic Mexican.

Paul S.

Yelp
Excellent, authentic - helpful if you speak Spanish. Not your typical chain Mexican restaurant so don't expect it to be ... it's way better

Dremund P.

Yelp
They used to serve quality food, but now their quesadillas have more bones than chicken. Can't do them again.

Chris A.

Yelp
I was in search for a good dinner and was in the area I saw this from the road and noticed that it was the same name as the restaurant that's on Murfreesboro Road. I came in and the place was very small and it was hot inside those poor people that work in there I don't think they have any air-conditioning but the real reason I went in there was the food and I could smell it. I placed my order at the counter and took a seat. The staff was very friendly I don't want to assume but it looks like husband and wife team. They were very friendly took my order and I had a seat. The food was made very quickly and delivered to my table. This is exactly what I wanted. For anyone who wants to try birria you definitely need to come here. Get the quesabirria. The price was very reasonable. This will become one of my favorites

Alexis B.

Yelp
Delicious! We stopped by for dinner last night and left happy and full! Birrieria y Taquaria Arandas is in the old Zulema's Taqueria on Graylynn Drive in Donelson. It's small inside (just 2-3 tables, I think), but they added some outside seating (picnic tables) as well. We ordered at the counter and enjoyed our meal outside at one of the picnic tables. Let's talk birria. It's a Mexican dish from Jalisco, and it's essentially meat stewed and served with consomme/soup. Growing up, I learned that birria was goat meat, but usually in the States you're talking beef. (I've only ever seen beef in Nashville.) And quesabirria? Take a tortilla (large or small depending on if it's taco style or quesadilla style), dip it in the consomme, place it on the grill with lots of the cheese and the birria inside, let it get crispy. Then it's served with a cup of consomme to dip the taco/quesadilla into. There are obviously lots of ways/variations of this dish. But in case you haven't had it before but have been hearing a lot about it (isn't quesabirria everywhere all of a sudden!??!? YUM), I thought this might be a helpful dumbed down explanation. So, of course, we got the quesabirria. Their version was quesadilla style (if they make taco versions I didn't see it on the menu). The consomme was delicious, and the quesadilla was a great cheesy/gooey mess - just what I wanted. The quesadilla didn't stay on the grill long enough to get crispy or browned at all which was my own complaint - because it made a bit more difficult to eat (dipping a soft, pliable slice of quesadilla into the consomme required some skill - did I have enough??). But a delicious, comforting, yummy dish. The plate came with frijoles, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, slices of cucumber, and lime. We also got their chicken plate (you can choose whole, half, or three piece chicken - we did the three piece). Their chicken was simple, delicious, with crispy skin, and really good grill/char flavor. A simple dish that I could eat all the time. The plate came with frijoles, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, slices of cucumber, and some corn tortillas. This was a meal I'd happily repeat. This is delicious comfort food to me. And that consomme! Check it out. There are a few places where you can find quesabirria in Nashville now - but this little spot in Donelson is making a yummy version.

Yelp
Arandas is a small restaurant. If you blink, you'll miss it when driving. The dine in experience is very cramped, but there is outdoor seating that feels more spacious. The outdoor space was recently renovated and it looks welcoming vs. just sitting on the parking lot. I came to get an order to go. I arrived at 7:00 pm and had asked for a milanesa de res plate with an order of plantains. I've had their milanesa before and it's one of the few places in Nashville that makes a good milanesa. My order was taken and I was asked to wait. Yea had placed my order after one of their person. After me, 2 other people placed an order. The person before me received their order within 10 minutes. I figured I would be next. Instead, the two people after me got their order before I did. After about 45 minutes, I went to check on my order. I was told they'd check on it and it turns out, my order was made erroneously, a chicken milanesa instead of a milanesa de res (meat). If I'd been kept informed, I would have been ok with the wrong order, as I like both. However, that was no longer an option so I had to wait for the new order to be ready. When I finally got my order, I was frustrated and left home because I was hungry. After arriving home, I opened my plate and I was given a completely different order. I do like their food, but this particular experience was not one of the best ones.

Yelp
Amazing service and even better quesabirria tacos...away from the crowds...you won't regret it...music is perfect too!

Yelp
I've eaten here probably 5-6 times since I've lived in Donelson, and every time I was pleasantly surprised. Last night, my partner and I went to get takeout. The vibes were alright but the floor was very dirty and we saw an ant crawling between the muck and mire as we waited for our food. We ordered the Quesitaco Combo as well as the Quesadilla combo with Chorizo. When we got home we quickly realized, that the Quesitaco had a flavor which I had not previously tasted in my experiences there as well as an overall drop in the quality of the meat in both dishes. We picked at both meals but had to toss a lot of it. This morning i woke up with a pretty gnarly stomach ache and I feel like it was the meat. I really hope it was just an off night cause there was only two people working and they were flirting really hard. Maybe they were just distracted and inadvertently gave me a tummy ache.

Yelp
Maybe more like 3.5? This former home to Zulema's has undergone quite a change. The new artwork is just outstanding, and love how much outdoor seating there is now. On the other hand, the cleanliness has declined, and there's no more condiment bar. (Which may be due to the current pandemic and will return once we get out of this mess.) The menu has tripled in size. Despite all the great new offerings, I opted for my go-to tacos with a side of yuca fries. The price is the same, so I was curious if the portions were also, if the tacos are still delicious, etc. The portions are MUCH bigger! Wow! Three tacos and a side for $9.00 was already one heck of a good deal under the previous ownership. But now? Oh my gosh, there's even more food all for the same price and tastes just as good! So five stars for that! Where this visit fell flat was how long we had to wait. It didn't seem busy when we got there with only one other table that already had their food. But there were several to go orders in the works, likely before we arrived, and there were only two employees present. Out of the two, I think only one lady was cooking. The cook had the same song on repeat and was just singing away. That's totally fine, but when you sit there for over 30 minutes waiting for three plates of food, the repeat of the same song (and what felt like a lack of urgency) starts to grind on your nerves a bit. We ordered our food to go because we wanted to sit outside. As we were eating, we noticed people coming to pick up to go orders and still having to wait a long time. We also witnessed one of the ladies leaving, then she returned with bags from the grocery store, so they must've run out of supplies! She then came out to our table and asked one of us to sign our credit card receipt because she had forgot to ask us to sign it. It was rather odd, but fine. All this to say that the food is totally worth it, just be prepared for the potential time involved. Maybe it's not always that busy, but next time I will be more prepared to wait and pleasantly surprised if I don't have to.

Jo B.

Yelp
Today I was defeated by the quesabirria. The portion was massive and too much for my gringa tummy. That being said I cannot wait for round two. I want to try everything they serve on their menu. The ladies running this place are wonderful, service is good, and the food is some of the most authentic you can find in Donelson. Please do yourself a favor and try this place!

John D.

Yelp
I spotted this "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant when going to church and had to see what was up. I checked out the site, looked at the food, read the reviews, showed the family, and we were on our way after church. Authentic Mexican food at its best. The service was friendly and the food was beyond excellent.

Alexis H.

Yelp
Holy moly!! This place is authentic & absolutely delicious. The refried beans tasted just like my grandmas from New Mexico & the tacos!!!! Yum yum yum

Marguerite B.

Yelp
This place used to be alright. The food now tastes horrible. I hope that maybe it was just a fluke that i got some bad food ...but damn the stuff I got on a Thursday night was not good.

Amari Y.

Yelp
Never noticed this lil spot before until I was craving tacos on my lunch break. Stumbled upon it and boy was I in for it. The Food is immaculate I got the quesataco with birria and lord have mercy was it divine. Nice and tender chicken or pork cooked so precisely. Amazing spot, glad I found it and will forever be back.

Marina M.

Yelp
This was completely amazing, best birria I've ever had. This is a little hole in the wall but I'm so glad I decided to stop in. The food was very inexpensive and absolutely filling and amazing. The birria, quesitacos combo, was delicious. The tortilla is dipped in birria broth and birria and cheese is piled on. It's so flavorful and dipped in the consumé, it's phenomenal. The birria flavoring is so amazing, the smokiness of the chiles and the anis come through but is well balanced to the bone broth of the beef. My only wish is for goat instead of beef but goat isn't very popular and yet this is very very very very good.

Gerald D.

Yelp
Food was good but the experience was terrible. I paid for my order and realized it was $39, I checked the menu and compared my order and prices, the server charged me an extra $14, I believe she did it intentionally hoping I wouldn't care. If you go verify your order and price!

Caleb P.

Yelp
I'm so glad that I got turned around and decided to give this place a shot! Stepping off the road and walking in the door here, I knew I had just found a hidden gym. The lady behind the counter was friendly and seemed genuinely decided to make sure I left her kitchen satisfied and happy. I ordered their breakfast eggs, beans and rice (you can add steak or chicken), which came with corn tortillas. The portion was huge! The eggs were authentic with chopped onion, peppers, and jalapeño. I did my best, but couldn't finish the last three bites. Then, I almost ordered take out for lunch later! Will absolutely be back.

Angela K.

Yelp
The quality of food is not good!!! I ordered an enchilada that's all it came out burnt w potatoes on top.

April I.

Yelp
THIS IS AUTHENTIC Mexican food TENNESSEE so if your in the area waiting for your plane, you should stop here first

Heather W.

Yelp
I was in the area for a class and found this cute little taqueria! It has a decent sized parking lot. It is pretty small on the inside with maybe only 6-8 booths and tables. There are a few outdoor tables where you can sit and they will come out and bring your food to you. That is what I opted to do since it was a nice sunny day. I ordered the 3 taco special that comes with one side item. I decided on the discada, the grilled mahi mahi and the carnitas tacos. For my side I got fried plantains. It didn't take too long to get my food after I ordered and when it came I realized my eyes may have been bigger than my stomach! The taco sizes and the plantains were huge! The plantains were delicious. They served them with a sweet creamy sauce that was so delicious. The tacos were absolutely amazing and close to being the best I've had in a long time. They were loaded full with the proteins and had just the right amount of toppings. They were in soft double shells and they tasted really good also. If you want some authentic Mexican cuisine you definitely need to give this place a try! If I had been around longer I would've loved to try more things off the menu!

Henry J.

Yelp
Excellent all the way around with food being hot and delicious. The service is always excellent. The ambiance is a small building but overflowing with taste. Birria Quesadilla

Nally V.

Yelp
It's just a no for me. We got there a little before 11 am. My step dad ordered tacos de cabeza and tacos de lengua. They didn't have either one available. So he settled with chicken tacos. I ordered the veggie tacos, with rice and beans on the side. Our food and came and they didn't have cilantro so they covered my stepdads tacos with big chunks of raw onion. My tacos were suppose to have black beans and those were no where to be seen. Also, they forgot about my beans side order. The was service was bad as well, the waitress never checked on us, and I had to go to the cash register for our check to pay. I really wanted to like this place, but I won't be back.

Robert F.

Yelp
I'm going to be completely honest here, and this isn't easy for me to say: this is the best Mexican food I've ever had. I'm from California. I've been to Mexico numerous times. This place is the best. In Nashville, TN...or maybe it's really the Twilight Zone. Everything is fresh and tastes homemade, super authentic (we were the only gringos eating there at the time), and unbelievably complex flavors-some of which are hard to identify. Not much as far as atmosphere (standard taqueria fare), but the prices are very reasonable. I could eat here every day of my life and die a happy man.

Jacob M.

Yelp
Muy deliciouso! I just wish this little gem was on my side of town! The birria quesadilla is huge and quite good

Megan W.

Yelp
Get the dipping quesadillas, they are the best! And the yuca fries! small little place, amazing food!

Cecily P.

Yelp
The best quesabirria in the city!!! Food is always hot and freshly made. The women are also very friendly.

Aaron T.

Yelp
Doesn't look like it would be a good, quality place to grab a bite at but they top a lot of other Taquerias in Nashville. For this reason they deserve 5 stars. The lady in their was nice, I stopped by for a quick bite to eat. I got the Quessabirria Plate. I should have asked for her to put the Quesidilla on separate plate because it got soggy a little but that is my fault. They also are not stingy with portions , the quesadilla was stuffed with beef. Great consome , rice and salad.

Gil P.

Yelp
Very authentic.. great food, great service. These small hole n the wall places are the best. I'm of Mexican decent.. and this is truly authentic.. and great chili.. very spicy !! A must do for great Mexican food. Very small place. The only thing i would change is that i wished they served in ceramic plates instead of Styrofoam.

Rachel C.

Yelp
Perfect hole in the wall Mexican restaurant! The guacamole was probably some of the best I've ever had. I had a steak burrito that was very delicious!

Alice C.

Yelp
They are seriously the best! The servers are lovely and welcoming. I usually get Tacos and the first thing you will notice is that their meat is properly seasoned. The flavor doesn't sit on top of the meat. The tortilla are most and never dry which is an issue a lot of times. I would definitely give them a try. I actually stopped going by so frequently because I went there 4 days in a row when I discovered them and was embarrassed!

Ramon A.

Yelp
The place is small in the inside, has several tables outside and plenty of parking space. The food was very tasty, everything was made perfectly, although the presentation wasn't fancy, the dish compensated for that. They offer a good variety of classic Mexican dishes and some with a bit of a twist to them. They are very affordable and it's a good place to get some quick and tasty Mexican food. I recommend you stop by to give it a try, you will surely return if you get the chance.

Hailey U.

Yelp
The quesabirria was SOO good. I think this is my new favorite meal period. The consome, the birria, the fresh pico - all amazing! The place is very small and cute. Service was quick and friendly. Love seeing it run by women. The churros are also really good. Definitely will be going back regularly.

Sydnie C.

Yelp
This gem has my heart! The girls that work here are the sweetest and are committed to making the best and authentic Mexican cuisine. My boyfriend basically bullied them into making tamales(not really haha it's been a running joke with them for weeks). They made tamales and were incredible just like everything else. Please go eat there, you will not regret it at all. Their barbacoa and pastor is my go to and of course the burria is top notch.

Michael D.

Yelp
I was so pleased to have some authentic steak tacos and a side of fried plantains, as well as learn what birria is. I suggest anything with birria if you have never tried it, and the staff was wonderful as well.

Ruben I.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food in Tennessee. Been here for a week and I needed my Mexican food fix and I found it.....

Jorge R.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food. The torta ahogada and quesabirria were great! The tacos al pastor were also delicious.

Allenya C.

Yelp
Great food . Sat ourselves. Food came really fast . Wasn't a busy day , Recommend the Birria

Elaine R.

Yelp
Phenomenal food! Great fresh flavor and large portions! We ordered the Birria quesadilla, carnitas tacos, tacos de lengua, carne asada, fried plantains, and churros. This is my new favorite spot now!

Jessica D.

Yelp
They are amazing!!!!! We live about 3 mins from this place and it's our go to for tacos!! They have the best cooks and are super friendly!! Closest thing to authentic on this side of town!

Walter W.

Yelp
Stopped by this place looking for another restaurant and ended up ordering 3 tacos and the quesaberria. Oh man, it was amazing! Seating is small inside maybe 6-8 tables but they have outdoor seating as well. The price was right and the food was top notch, highly recommend!

Hunter K.

Yelp
This place rules. I always get the 3 tacos and yuca fries combo. I'm never disappointed.
