Zunzi’s Review - West Midtown - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"It’s hard to miss the bright orange Zunzi’s sign on Howell Mill and even harder to overlook their “Sh*t Yeah” slogan. But after a bite of one of their sandwiches, you'll nod in agreement—these extra saucy subs, which are thoroughly spiced and served with French bread, are exciting shake-ups to the city's sandwich scene. It took over a decade for this Savannah, Ga.-born, South African sandwich place to put down roots in ATL. We just wish they came sooner because we could have spent more years eating our favorites like the Godfather with tender chicken and Boerewors sausage doused with their tangy, signature Sh*t yeah and Sheba sauce. But no visit to this fast-casual counter service-spot would be complete without a few of their wings covered with creamy Mustafa curry." - Juli Horsford

I love this place so much , the food is so amazing. My boyfriend and I come here all the time and we have the best time ever. We always sit at the bar and come to see our favorite bartender April she’s the sweetest , does an amazing job and makes us the best drinks. She’s a ray of sunshine and makes our experience at zunzis always the best. Their staff is always helpful and we always love the vibe of the place it’s so fun!

The sandwiches here were delicious and the atmosphere of the restaurant was really enjoyable. There was live music that wasn’t overwhelming so we could still enjoy our conversation. Nice decorations that made the restaurant feel like they cared about the customer experience. We ordered the fisherman salmon and curry chicken sandwiches and they were very good.

Google
FOOD - Got the slaap chip chili nachos + godfather sandwich. Huge portions and great food. Love their sauces! SERVICE - So sweet and kind! Gave us free popsicles and 2 of their signature sauce bottles for free! The sweetest staff ever. VIBE - Lunch vibe was great! Felt like I was at the beach. Probably one of the best lunch experiences I’ve had in Savannah. Will definitely come back again.

Google
Very good place! We had the Conquistador sandwich which was very delicious especially because of the special sauces. The side were very crisp chips with another delicious, home-made sauce. The server was very friendly and even gave us 3 bottles of their sauces for free! Also the manager came out twice to ask if we needed anything else. We were sitting outside and they had a musician playing live music which was a very nice ambiance. The prices are reasonable. Definitely recommend !

Google
The sandwiches and sauces are sooo good. My favorite was the dank sauce so far, but we’ll have to try the sauce flight next time. Nadya was our server, and she took great care of us. Also super fast service! 5 stars all around!!

Google
During our visit to Savannah, my wife and I ate here today from a strong recommendation from a friend in Texas. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was great, the food exceeded our expectations and we happened to catch it during happy hour (4-7pm) when live music is playing from a local artist. For food, we had the Conquistador sandwich (very good) and the Oliver Bowl with rice and the Indian Curry Chili that was extremely flavorful and a little spicy. Portions are generous, but we did not have any leftovers because the food was so good. Our server was Sarah who was awesome (attentive, engaging in conversation and very personable). She was worthy of adding to our memory photo roll of our trip as shown by the photo. When we return back to Savannah, we'll be making a stop back at Zunzibar! You won't be disappointed to make a pit stop here!

Google
Loved the vibes of this restaurant! The music was fun and upbeat adding to the carefree atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the pita and dips tray, the sandwich, wings, and multiple drinks. Everything was so tasteful and unique. I asked the manager about the sauce on the wings and she brought me two sauces to take home so I could share with my family!! The absolute sweetest. All of the staff was super friendly and the customer service was exceptional.

Google
Loved the conquistador sandwich, which comes with a juicy chicken filling, and chips on the side. It was a massive sandwich and really filling. I paired this up with Zunzi’s Tea, a sweet iced tea, and an absolute necessity in a hot rainy Savannah. The place was really busy and absolutely worth it.

Meggie P.

Yelp
Sarah and Tori in the kitchen are the sweetest!! They make the best food and are super fast!

Logan J.

Yelp
Food was awesome, and the staff is great! Had a great time with my husband on our honeymoon. Vibes were chill despite some rainy weather. Will be coming back !!

Yelp
Perfect light dinner with our puppy on outdoor patio. Food delicious. Happy hour margarita (definitely not watered down) was great too.

Yelp
A trip to Savannah means a trip to Zunzi's! I'm happy to report Zunzi's is better than ever--great food, drinks, and service. Shit yeah!!!! However I'm sad to report my favorite sandwich, the Rising Sun, is no longer on the menu, but the Falafel Roll has been my new go to! They're currently remodeling part of their interior, so inside seating is limited but there's still plenty of outside seating with heat lamps! They also have some hot seasonal beverages to try during the winter season. Definitely stop by for drinks, sandwiches, wings, and good vibes!

Yelp
On a chilly December night we passed through Savannah and were looking for a spot for food we could have our pup with us. We struck out at a couple other spots that didn't have heaters but it was meant to be because this place was the best!! We sat at the inside space at the bar and had a great time. Everyone was super friendly and chatty - James and Tori were great behind the bar and the manager Kendra came out to say hello to the dog and chat, and our dog even got a pup cup! So these chips are magical, fresh and super tasty. I had a falafel roll made vegan and it was a little dry but let it sit in the sauce for a bit and it's delish, maybe order some hummus to add. My wife had Oliver's bowl with African sausage and chicken - highly recommend the sausage 10 times over. Had a great local IPA and couldn't be happier. They said they were expanding the space and we'd definitely come back through!

Yelp
Food is phenomenal. A must try. Ordered the sauce flight for all my friends to try. Great way to try all the variations. Quac king was serving us and helped us with the flavors. Sandwiches are world class.

Yelp
This place never disappoints! Fantastic, friendly service and incredible food... what more could you ask for?! I tried the lettuce wrap today for the first time and let me just say, don't let it scare you! This thing is plenty big enough to fill you up even without the bread. All the same tasty goodness that I've come to expect from them.

Yelp
It was our first day in Savannah and we were starving and hadn't eaten anything all day. I searched a place to get sandwiches and this looked interesting. The place had a really cool vibe. I ordered the Godfather which had chicken, boereswore sausage , and regular sausage. It was pretty good but it was a lot and I don't know if all the meats really went well together I think it was too much. It had some kind of tomato sauce on it which I didn't know, I thought it was just going to be regular tomato. I think I liked my husband's conquistador sandwich better because it went better together and wasn't overwhelming. The sauces that came with it were good. The chips were tasty too and had a little bit of a kick and you also get free chip refills . I had a sweet tea. My husband got one half sweet half unsweetened which was cool i never seen a place do that . I liked mine fully sweetened. Overall it was a good lunch and i recommend it. Staff were very friendly too.

Yelp
Omg idk what they put in those Zunzi's chips but holy crap are they addicting af. I could eat them as is--they're *that* good on their own--orrrrr I could have them doused in one of their 7 delish sauces (that dank! sauce is just but you truly can't go wrong w any of them). The sandwiches were also solid--my husband and I split the Godfather and Conquistador--but we're not as mind-blowing as those chips. Probably just a personal preference but unless it's a cold cut sandwich, I like my cheese all nice and melty and the cheese on these weren't. Drinks were also pretty good--we got the Island Water + Mango Tango. I liked the Mango Tango a bit more but that could also because our waiter threw in a jalapeño pineapple tequila floater for me lol. Overall a very fun, super chill place to grab some drinks and food with friends. Would def come back the next time I'm visiting Savannah!

Yelp
After walking past this place 100s of times, we decided to give a try for happy hour. 26% off bar bites & drinks put a smile on my face no doubt The falafel bites were cooked to order and combine that with delicious ziki sauce you'll leave happy My wife went with a margarita and it was strong - maybe a double? Funky spot with cool vibes and great service - we will be back

Yelp
While visiting Savannah my husband and I wanted to get some afternoon drinks so we decided to stop by Zunzi's. They have lots of outside seating available but since it was a little cold we sat inside at the bar. They have colorful decorations and neon lights and this place gives a fun atmosphere. Also, Zunzi's is known for their shotski and when you order one you take it in front of everyone and the staff takes your photo. It's a fun vibe whenever they announce a shotski. Since it was our first time at Zunzi's we asked the bartender for recommendations and she suggested the Winter Siesta drink and the Lekker Spread. My husband ordered Jack. The Winter Siesta was really good and refreshing and doesn't taste like your average cocktail. The Lekker Spread was a perfect appetizer to share while having a few drinks relaxing at the bar. Zunzi's is a perfect place to just chill and have a few drinks. Next time I go I plan on having a bigger meal because that appetizer was different and their menu isn't your average food selection.

Yelp
This may have been my great favorite takeout spot!!!, but this time I dined in and the atmosphere is just what I needed on this day, the music , the openness for me after being in the office days at a time. The server was attentive and polite, food was prompt ,hot and oh so delicious. I wanted to eat it all but couldn't. The nachos had just the right amount of spice to keep you coming back. When I go back next time I'm eating every bit of it... Thanks Zunzi's for a great lunch!

Cathy H.

Yelp
Excellent food and lovely outdoor seating! Knowledgeable and friendly staff will help you if you are new to South African cuisine.

Yelp
As a self-appointed sandwich connoisseur, Zunzi's is one of my favorite sandwich restaurants in Savannah! It's a neat little spot off Dayton street downtown with amazing food and full bar. They've redone this place since I last came before covid and it's such a cool hangout. They have plenty of outside seating for a gorgeous Savannah day, but also plenty of inside seating as well. They also have a large bar with some seating. We ordered the conquistador and the godfather sandwiches. The sandwiches are huge and they come with lots and lots of chips, which are also amazing. As big as the portions are, we 100% ate every morsel! They have a great beer selection to enjoy as you stuff your face with the sandwiches with the delicious secret sauce. The service is solid and will always be a Savannah staple for us!
google avatar

Yelp
Average chain quality food at a reasonable price w a relaxed beach bar atmosphere (although it's in the middle of Savannah) w excellent, friendly service and large selection of awesome drinks
google avatar

Yelp
We visited Savannah and tracked down fun holiday drinks across town. Zunzi's was so great! We both ordered the hot apple cider... his with rum, and mine with whiskey. It was a chilly day and the warm drink was perfect. Our server even turned the outdoor heater on for us (Floridians). We also ordered the falafel and hummus app, which was so so good. Outstanding hummus. The vibe is kind of no frills, but we really enjoyed it! The server was friendly and fast. I'd 100% go back if we visited again to try more food and warm holiday drinks. They also had awesome igloos to rent out with friends with bottomless drink packages... that sounds so fun!

Yelp
Husband and I were visiting Savannah and came here after a local friend recommended it. She suggested Common Restaurant as well but I'm so glad we came here to Zunzi's! We shared the Conquistador and a 50/50 tea (the tea is South African rooibus). I loved both! (Hubs was not a fan of the tea, but he's a loyal Tejava drinker) Location is great. Walking distance from everything a tourist will want to be at. Service was excellent, seating was chill. We plan to come back to Savannah and will definitely be making a stop at Zunzi's!

Yelp
This place is largely an outdoor deck and a pickup window (which is great on a lot of Savannah evenings) though there was an indoor seating area as well. I ordered takeout, I took my takeout to a nearby park square, and I looked in to discover that my lunch combo (available at all times of day) seemed to be missing the falafel I ordered. Fortunately, I had not gone far, and on my return, they confirmed that I am not crazy and no falafel was hiding anywhere in there, and made me some fresh falafel. They said they gave me a couple extra; I don't know what the normal number was. I was pretty hungry, so this was a win for me with all things considered. The falafel itself was fine but not world beating; the more interesting flavor was a sour and spicy sauce they gave me a lot of. There were many options for this dish, and I got salad, bread, and mashed potatoes. This is a place that offers solid options for vegan and gluten-free diners and is open long hours. People with special needs would be well advised to double check for mistakes. For me, it was a reminder of the adage that you should always give a business the opportunity to make things right when they screw up, and since they did, I would be happy to return.

Yelp
I just love this place. The service is always impeccable, the food is always amazing and the ambiance is spectacular. I'm not sure how often they have live music, but each time I've visited I've had the pleasure of listening to live music that was beautiful to my ears. If you love flavorful food, Zunzi's does that. Blended drinks can be difficult, however not at Zunzi's. They do blended drink's delicious, creamy and you actually taste the adult content! I had the Frozen Banana Hammock, felt like I was on the beach, hammock chillin!

Yelp
If you're thinking about visiting do it! We had a wonderful weather day and were able to enjoy the outdoor seating area. The menu had options that everyone could enjoy. I ordered the boozy coffee and it was so good! The lunch bowl was a nice size and absolutely delicious. A few at our table ordered sandwiches and nachos which had very generous portion. The food, the service and the atmosphere are all wonderful!

Yelp
Amazing customer service and food. Ambiance is great, lots of opportunity for people to watching in the heart of downtown
google avatar

Tanisha B.

Yelp
The food was awesome, the staff was great especially Josh. Did I say the food was awesome. The atmosphere was also great inside of the igloo that they have. Will differently come back when back in town. It will be the first and last stop.

Yelp
Very eclectic vibe at this location! The menu was heavily influenced by South African flavors which bring unique dishes to their menu. We opted for their wings, naked, and the chip slapp plate, which is basically a giant box of nachos. For the chip plate we did opt to add the curry chili to it which provided a lot of spice and exciting flavors. The wings were decent although they could've been cooked maybe a tad longer to give them the extra crisp that one wants on some chicken wings. This location is located off of Main street so just like many things in Savannah, parking can be extremely tight. We did try a couple of the beverages as well, including the TT which is a blend of South African tea with Titos vodka. You do have the option to do it as regular or you can make it spicy. I opted for the spiciness, and really loved that little kick that you got at the end when you were taking a drink. I also tried the dune buggy which was a mix of four roses bourbon, BlackBerry liquor, lime, and other things, and it was absolutely delicious. My husband opted for a beer and found it to be very refreshing. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at this location, but definitely love their beverages over the food a little bit more.

Yelp
Local sandwich shop in Savanah with unique choices of sandwiches. I tried the Bird Island sandwich which was pretty good. Has a lot of flavor, could have used a little more spice for a curry style. Also ordered the mustafa curry wings which were incredible.
google avatar

Prianka S.

Yelp
Tried the bird sandwich and the wings with level 2 and both were delicious. The chips that came along with it were great too and service was nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Zuni's is a fabulous African food restaurant. My Parmesan chicken sandwich was to die for. I WOULD RECOMMEND
google avatar

Madison J.

Yelp
Showed up with a pretty large party, about 10 people and we were able to get seated. I think we got in right before the lunch rush. But service was really good, we were able to split the bill per person and she kept coming over to take drink orders. The food was pretty good, the nachos were a large serving. The onion wasn't cooked enough though. It's an outdoor place so good to go when it's nice out. They were also able to change the TVs to the sporting game we wanted which was nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Great time with Jazz in the igloo! We came with family and it was our first time. Jazz was amazing and so accommodating!
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
One of our 2 favorite places we dined during a long weekend in Savannah. We love a less pretentious place that just offers fun and yummy food and drinks. This place hit that mark, plus good service and interesting decor. We intended to only have a few drinks but decided to try a few bites too. The falafel bites were round yummy bites perfect for dipping in the tzatziki sauce. We also ordered a side of chips, warm and fresh with a really good dipping sauce. All our drinks were fantastic and we look forward to returning to try more. We only wish there was a location closer to home in Jacksonville!
google avatar

Anvaya N.

Yelp
I remember trying Zunzis pre covid and it was small store like place for pick up and go sandwiches. The place is now turned to an Upscale yet casual bistro. We went for lunch and it was packed. The sandwiches still hit the same. Love the soft French bread and the sauces are delicious. They have fresh homemade chips which are Smokey and peppery great side for the sandwiches. They have a great cocktails and beer selection. I wish we had such a great sandwich places in Columbus. Definitely a must try when in Savannah
google avatar

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Not a single complaint about this place. The food was great and the staff were awesome! The fun little extras were a nice touch! Would definitely return.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
We were in town for a bachelorette party and LOVED this place. $20 bottomless mimosas, the sandwiches were amazing, and the service was wonderful. We have a girl with celiac in our group and the server was so great about making sure her food was gluten free and safe! We loved the godfather sandwich and would absolutely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Zunzi's is a Savannah must try. First off, they have the absolute cutest restaurant. It's bright, clean, and colorful! The have a huge, covered patio with fans, but there is also an indoor area if you need a break from the heat. I was actually able to eat at Zunzi's twice - once on my own and once on a food tour. This worked out perfectly and I was able to try both vegetarian sandwiches on the menu! I had both the rising sun and the Johnny roll. The rising sun was my favorite for sure, but that's because I'm not a huge fan of fake meat. The rising sun was LOADED with veggies! Mushrooms were the star of the dish, but they also had peppers, onions, zucchini, guac, and hummus. The Johnny roll was also good but not my top pick. They are not shy at all with their sauces and I love it. You will make a mess while eating these sandwiches! I also tried their sweet tea (50/50) and yum- perfect lunch!
google avatar

Shelby A.

Yelp
A great spot for a drink while exploring Savannah! Very strong delicious drinks and the best part is you can take them with you as you walk if you don't finish them! Service was great, you can seat yourselves indoors or outdoors and then immediately get taken care of. I loved that we were given insight on drinks and flavors and how strong the drinks are. You can also order food here with some great Happy Hours deals on drinks and food. There is also live music everyday from 6-9pm! The whole bad vibe is very fun and colorful, with some great music playing! Definitely worth checking out!

Rachel H.

Yelp
Fun local hangout! Great deal on the bottomless mimosas. Staff is incredibly friendly and enjoy their jobs! Shoutout to Jas and Noah for a great time and excellent service. Recommend if you are looking for a place for good drinks!

J P.

Yelp
Use to be a 5 star. Portions and wuality has gone way down. Gettin a lil too big for their britches
google avatar

Stephen D.

Yelp
The food was great but I can't get over how expensive this place has gotten and how small the food portions were relative to price. I think this place is still a must try but it's getting hard to justify coming back with $17 for food that should cost $12.
google avatar

Ruth W.

Yelp
We got there right when they opened at 11:00 and in about fifteen minutes, the outside seats were full. Clearly a popular place for locals and tourists alike! Staff is friendly and quick to serve. When ordering cocktails, the sweet lady asked to see my ID lol Food is wonderful. I got the Oliver bowl and chose grilled salmon as my protein, with mashed potatos, grilled veggies and a salad. My daughter got a chicken sandwich called The Godfather or something like that. The daughter said the sauce was amazing. To top it all off, the cocktails were really delicious.
google avatar

Susan R.

Yelp
We've eaten there and taken away, either way, the flavors rock. Outdoor seating is awesome, indoor is fine too, if that's your thing. I was a Godfather loyalist, but don't eat much bread these days so I opted for Gaby's Greens Salad Oliver's Way (chicken, boerewors and smoked sausage). Score! I grabbed three salads while visiting this year, and ate them each twice. Lunch for the entire week. Yummy eats for the last 5 years. Sweeeet. Oh yeah, get some tea, too. You're welcome.
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
Grabbed a sandwich for takeout from here. We got a conquistador. It was very good, but the chips were the star of the show! They were SO GOOD. I would go and just eat chips. They also give you a large portion of you get takeout. Would definitely stop by again when is Savannah.
google avatar

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Zunzi's is one of my favorite restaurants in Savannah! When we have friends/family in town, it's a must! I love how they have a unique menu. The conquistador looks simple, but is bursting with flavor. From the roasted chicken that is always tender, to the special sauce and fresh bread - my mouth is watering thinking about it. They have an amazing happy hour special: half off all drinks and $1 wings from 5-7pm. My husband and I love the peri-peri wings. They have a little heat but delicious flavor. Most of the seating is outdoor (and pet friendly), but they do have an inside part and a handful of seats. The vibe is cool and the staff is always friendly!
google avatar

Nicki L.

Yelp
Fun spot with a sprawling front deck and live music! Our server Taylor was super friendly and gave us good recommendations for food. I got the Fisherman's Deck which was a salmon sandwich with a creamy, lemony sauce. We shared some chips and cheese dip which was a great snack!
google avatar

Lizzy G.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance. Live music on a Friday night, open air restaurant, plenty of seating, and really cute decor. My wings were piping hot and delicious. My husband loved his sandwich. The slaap chips were good and probably would've been better if I wasn't dairy free typically, they're way more loaded than pictured below. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
What. A. Vibe. First of all. Sitting outside is the way to go. Big plus they have live music every night. Second, they have a really great sunset hour menu - lots of discounts between 5-7pm. Third, on National Margarita Day they have $5 margs (The Mango Tango & the Si Señor were delicious). For food, we had the Slaap Chips with Chicken & Bird Island Sandwich. Get both, SO good. If you need dessert, get the chocolate chip cookie over the rice crispy. But take the cookie home & warm it up before you eat it. Overall, staff was friendly & food was great. Excited to come back & try more of the menu!
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
Needed a quick bite before a ghost tour at 9:30pm and this was exactly what we needed! I'm a simple man. If People magazine votes something "the best..." I go. The sandwiches were delicious. Zunzi sauce should be bottled and sold worldwide. Easily walkable from anywhere in Savannah proper.

Lisa D.

Yelp
Great food and cocktails. The service was excellent and environment was fun! Would definitely go again next time I'm in Savannah!!
google avatar

Yelp
Best place I visited in Savannah! Came here 8x over a 4 day span while staying at a nearby hotel. The atmosphere here is exhilarating. You can seat yourself inside, at the bar, or outside and get immediate service. The service was super friendly and efficient despite coming here with multiple large groups and people changing tables. The menu itself has a lot of South African influence and flavors, however, I mostly ate the wings and ordered drinks. They have two happy hours 5-7pm and 10-11pm where drinks are half off and wings are $1. I could go on and on about my experiences and how much I enjoyed this venue but overall, just the most inviting environment. So many great food and drink options plus great service and friendly staff. I recommend coming here for both happy hours if you're ever visiting Savannah.
