The Best Indian Restaurants In Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Zyka sits in the bones of an old church, and the fellowship hall vibes make sense here—you'll want to gather around family-sized mounds of biryani and curries too good to hoard for yourself. Add in standouts like the humongous spicy potato-filled samosas and the fiery red chicken 65, and you’ll want to keep this Decatur counter-service operation as your first option next time you’re rolling nine deep and looking to spontaneously walk in somewhere to get a meal. Just prepare to wait at least 20 minutes for your food since Zyka’s kitchen is busy feeding a dining room always filled with families, coworkers, entire little league teams, Alabama cousins, and anyone else who appreciates this kind of rich, hearty, and comforting Indian cooking." - juli horsford, jacinta howard, nina reeder

Best Indian restaurant in the USA! NO CAP! Chicken 65 is top tier and probably the best in the entire world. The menu is huge and you can’t miss with what you get. Everything is fresh and delicious. Whenever you’re in the A definitely check out Zyka. Trust me you won’t regret it. 5 stars for sure. The water is so good and will make you question your existence. The chairs and booths are so comfortable and

If you are lover of indian and pakistani food and dishes, this restaurant is best for karahis. We go there twice every week. Love it. Please note: It has self service

Visited this amazing place with good music and friendly atmosphere. The staff’s were very friendly and provided me with good options for dinner. For starters we ordered Gobi Manchuria which was crispy tasted good, for main course we ordered Paneer makhani and Butter Naan which was so soft and one of the best naan's i had. For deserts we ordered Rasmalai and Mango matka kulfi, Both the deserts were so yummy. They have few other flavors in kulfi like Malai, pistachio and chikoo. The food quantity is really good enough for two people and the price is affordable too. Would definitely recommend this place.

Just had an amazing lunch at this place. Chicken 65 & Chilli Chicken: These were the absolute stars of the show! The chicken 65 lived up to the hype, completely bomb ⚡️ with a fantastic texture. Chilli chicken was equally delicious. Hyderabadi Biryani & Haleem: Both had great textures, but lacked a bit of spice for my taste. If they kicked up the spice level, they'd be incredible! New Platter : This platter is a steal at $12.99! It comes with 2 starters (I got chicken 65 and chicken tikka masala), rice, daal, and a gulab jamun. Perfect for one person and everything was delicious. Butter Chicken & Kadai Chicken: Flavorful, but again, a bit mild on the spice. Ask for extra spice if you like it hot! But the butter chicken with naan - that's a winning combination. Desserts: Everything was good, but the malai kulfi and chickoo matka kulfi were the clear champions. Mango Lassi: The perfect way to end a perfect meal! The manager was super nice and friendly. The restaurant had a calm vibe, even though we stayed a bit late, no one asked us to leave they were completely nice. If you're looking for a delicious and affordable Indian meal, This place is definitely worth checking out. Especially recommend the chicken 65, chilli chicken, butter chicken, mango lassi, malai kulfi, and chickoo matka kulfi. Just remember to ask for extra spice if you like it hot 😌.

Firstly the food was exceptional. We tried sheek kebab & tandoori chicken which were really good (chutneys were good but mint chutney would be a good option if considered). The rotis were soft and butter chicken was really good with the rotis. The mutton biryani needs special appreciation for the kind of taste and the quantity which can easily serve two people. The biryani was very close to being authentic which is very rare to find here in GA. I’m definitely going back for mutton biryani and the desserts. We tried Rabdi, carrot halwa and kulfi which were really good. The place was clean and people working there are very friendly and have a great knowledge on what they are selling which was helpful to pick the best options. Highly recommend if you’re missing that authentic biryani and delicious desserts. The prices are a steal for the quantity.

If this place was more consistent, it would be amazing. The Chicken 65 (spicy fried chicken nuggets), chili chicken, and nihari are to die for. I grew up eating at the Decatur location and Zyka is still nostalgic comfort food for me. However, over the last few years, quality has dropped significantly. When everything is fresh, it tastes great. But when it’s bad, it’s really really bad. Almost inedible. The flavors are consistent, but the quality and freshness of the ingredients is not consistent. Sometimes the chicken has a very off-putting smell and sour taste, like it was going bad before they cooked it. Other times, the chicken is seemingly fried in oil that’s a week old and hasn’t been changed out. Literally tastes like it’s been cooked in motor oil and is completely inedible. If this restaurant committed to high quality, fresh ingredients and clean oil, it would be one of the best in town. However, the ownership seems complacent (because the restaurant is already popular) and just does not care about quality anymore. What once was a family-run establishment in Decatur is now a commercialized semi-fast-food chain. Sad to see the owners cut corners on quality just to make a few extra bucks. People would pay more if quality was good every time. I’ve gotten food poisoning twice from this location specifically. Don’t eat here unless you have a strong stomach.

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. After placing an online order for a Mutton Biryani Family Pack, which was shown as available online, I drove from Buford to Alpharetta for pickup. When I arrived, the order was canceled without any prior call or email. I was only told at the counter that they don’t serve the family pack during the day and it is only available in the evening. After standing in line for a long time, I requested five mutton biryanis, but was told that only two could be provided. To make things worse, I never received any cancellation email or call regarding my original order, which would have saved me the long trip. Overall, the lack of communication, poor customer service, and misleading online menu left me very dissatisfied. I hope the management improves their online ordering accuracy and customer service to avoid such experiences in the future.

Yelp
We enjoyed Zyka: the Taste in Alpharetta location for lunch. They have lots of various spicy dishes, including the chicken 65 which was delicious as well as mutton masala. The butter chicken was flavorful with the rice and the naan bread as sides. The service was friendly and ambiance is clean!

Yelp
This is the nice version of the Zyka at Decatur. It had its own parking deck, you order at the counter and they call you to get your food once it's ready. Seating is spacious and clean. It's more family friendly as compared to their other branch. Service was good, food came quickly. It was delicious. We got chicken 65, biryani, sheekh kebabs, chicken tandoori and palak paneer and roti. My favorite were the chicken tandoori and sheekh kebabs.

Yelp
Went with friends for dinner and the AC was not turned on. We were sweating waiting for the food and when my friend asked, they turned it on. It was 94 degrees outside! Also, no one was wiping and cleaning tables as parties left and new families arrived. The food was lacking in taste from the biryani, to the mango lassi, to the chicken dishes. The women's restroom was dirty also. The sinks were filthy. There are too many other restaurants that are far better for the money. In this economy, once a customer has a bad experience they will not come back.

Yelp
Everytime we visit Atlanta this is the first place we go to! The food is consistently delicious, simple and amazing. I am not sure of the other items on the menu because my cousins (who live local) always order. It's a self service model, you order and pay upfront find a seat for yourself/ your party; they call out your name when the order is ready. We went on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. For this meal(and every other) we got multiple portions of the tandoori chicken (leg quarter), a chicken 65, a chicken chilli all these items are served with a spicy flavorful raita (yogurt dip) and a sweet tamarind chutney. We also got the naan (naan = Indian bread, please don't say naan bread), a side of rice (flavored), chicken tikka masala, achari gosht, mutton biryani, and ofcourse mango lassi to help ease down everything. They would give us a side of onions and jalapeños with the apps before now it's for a charge (a dollar or two). For dessert we got the Qubani ka meetha (apricot custard) and rabdi. Their matka kulfi( is really good too. The ambience is average, you can hear the mumble of conversations over the guy yelling names of the orders ready for pickup and subtle Bollywood music playing in the background.

Yelp
Biryani Biryani Biryani Just the mutton Biryani was great. Chicken Biryani was terrible. Really really bad. I know about Zyka Atlanta even before moving to Atlanta 7 years ago. It is a famous name. So famous that people who visit Atlanta make sure that they visit Zyka The Decatuer location. Eventually the quality is gone. Surprised to see the new location and wanted to give it a try. The goat biryani was spot on. The aroma, the same old taste, it was phenominal. 10/10. Will order again. Prices are very reasonable. Cant say the same about Chicken Biryani. Too much food color. Aroma wasnt great. Didnt taste good. Lets just leave it. I dont even wanna describe it. Decor is good. They simplified ordering and paying process. Fast service. Great job there. 5 stars for mutton biryani alone. Best mutton biryani in Atlanta.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Atlanta! We used to frequent the one in Decatur, but love that they put the one up in Alpharetta. We go there after church all the time and it's so much closer. We have some usuals for two of us (lol - we always get extra and look like pigs, but we bring it home and have it a couple days during the week). I get the chicken tikka masala, the chili chicken and a piece of tandoori chicken along with the saag paneer. My husband gets the Nehari and chicken seek kebabs along with chicken biryani. There are some other good things on the menu too. Go and enjoy - it is on the spicy side - never sweet - unless you get dessert.

Yelp
Love this gem in Alpharetta. I'm not versed in Indian cuisine so take my review with a grain of salt. The menu is simple, but has lots of great options. My favorite is the butter chicken with rice and naan. They have this yogurt and red sauce that you can get on the side which really amps up the flavor. Service is fantastic for an order at the front and pick up and sit down kind of spot. Lots of seating and really clean. Plenty of parking at the front.

Yelp
Had not been to this location of Zyka since it opened right around Covid time. Got to eat the delicious chicken 65 at several gatherings so decided to go for dinner tonite. We ordered aloo tikki, Hyderabadi dal, achari ghost and naan. So here goes the review. Aloo tikki was not what I imagined it to be. I am from north India and it is supposed to be crispy on the outside and soft but firm on the inside. This was a 4 pack of deep fried lumpy potato filling. The dips that it came with were delish. The recipe for the dal and achari ghost seem to have changed over the years. I did not taste any pickle seasonings in my dish. As a mutton curry, it was delish. As achaari ghost, it was a disappointment. I remember falling in love with Hyderabad cuisine at Zyka since late1990s in Decatur. This dal was not that. This was a bland soupy dish that did not have any tomatoes or curry leaves or a pronounced tamarind flavor. Naan, service at the counter was good. I like that since it is a self service location, they don't expect a tip. But I won't be returning. I will eat my occasional 65 and chilli chicken at gatherings but NOT come back to order what used to be my fave dishes.i

Yelp
I'm trying to find the words to describe Zyka, and all I can think about are "hip, modern Indian cuisine". Everything from the exterior of the building to the interior and the presentation of food just makes me think that this is not your ordinary Indian restaurant. I read a comment on Youtube claiming that Zyka had the best chicken 65 in the Atlanta area. I haven't had much chicken 65 in my life, but I can say that Zyka does a very good job with theirs. The chicken is always fried to perfection and the flavor of the chilis comes through, but is never overpowering the chicken itself. The interior is juicy and tender, and the sauces that accompany the dish complement it well. You just know it's going to be authentic right when it comes out. I've also had the chance to try some of their other dishes. Their vegetable biryani is alright, the vegetables were not the best but the yogurt that came with it was delicious. The portions are also massive. I also had their palak paneer. The curry itself was delicious, it tasted fresh and had a pretty big kick to it, I was surprised. It was not over the top. I wish they had more paneer in it, the ratio of paneer to curry heavily favored the curry. I will warn you that the curries do not come with rice, which is a surprise. I think the rice would tone down the heat a bit. The naan is average, it is loaded with butter, but could've used another minute or two to get some nice char and crunch to it, it was super soft, but had great flavor! The style of the restaurant is extremely casual. You order at the front counter and there is no table service. The interior is bright, open and inviting which leads to a social environment. They seem to have a street food-esque style of serving food, with all dishes coming on paper plates with shareable portions. For me, there are not many Indian restaurants that are like this, which is a pretty neat change in scenery. I'd certainly come back for not only the food, but also the unique vibes of the restaurant.

Yelp
ZYKA IS THE PLACE TO BE!!! This is a must see in Alpharetta. Order their chicken 65 and you'll never look back. I swear on this. Get the rice and all the sauces. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
I've been to Zyka twice and think the quality of food is consistent. The naan is buttery and extra light, nehari has the right spices and consistency, rice is extra buttery, and mango lasssi is on point. I would pass on the "pureed daal" though. However- the portions are less than half of what I would expect for the price. Especially for one where you order at the front counter. 4 stars for the taste...down to 2 stars factoring in portion sizes.

Sandina L.

Yelp
They have the reasonable price , and best food, especially Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken dip with Nann, Chicken 65!

Ellie L.

Yelp
My first experience at an Indian restaurant didn't disappoint. Foods were fresh and flavorful. We'll be back.

Yelp
They are finally open in Alpharetta!! I believe they started on Oct 14th! Plenty of parking and decent space inside with new stuff. The menu is similar to one in Decatur location. You can order by phone or at the store using one of their machines. Food tastes exactly like in Decatur. Glad that there is only in the OTP area now!

Yelp
A part of me wants Zyka to stay a hidden gem but I couldn't keep my mouth shut. I've been to the Decatur location over 30-40 times. I am an Alpharetta transplant from Decatur where its Greater. I've lived in India for a year and have home-cooking experience of //. I went with my parents and we ordered 8 roti, the spicy lamb curry, the mutton curry, chicken 65 and eggplant curry. All were delicious. The eggplant was very mild in spice but delicious. My favorite was the spicy lamb and mutton. Explosion of flavors and the buttered roti was super comforting and cooked perfectly. Good portion of Chicken 65. My mom also made the comment that the price seems to be a bit higg in regards to the amount of food given. But my opinion is this is made up for with the depth in spice and taste. My parents have gone 3 days in a row now. They are Korean seniors and am suggesting a senior discount day . Also the owner is there making sure everything is running smooth and on point.
google avatar

Iamafoodie M.

Yelp
OMG, they have drastically improved the taste of the food here in the past 3 years. Warm and spicy food are such a welcome during winters. We skipped the usual chicken 65 an order Chicken Seekh Kabaab, Tandoori Chicken and Mutton/Goat Biryani. They are economically priced so you pay for anything extra. We did re order the Tandoori Chicken since it was melting in the mouth. We will be back soon. Looks like we found a place for this winter!
google avatar

Shreya T.

Yelp
Awesome food. My favorite was qubani ka meetha and chilly chicken. Authentic taste. Butter chicken tasted just like in india. Friendly and kind people. Loved loved loved the place. It was a wonderful experience I will recommend this place.
google avatar

Reza R.

Yelp
The food is mediocre, the prices are high and portions are abysmal. I guess it's conveniently located and has a good amount of seating. Food tastes okay. Literally just a tiny bowl enough for 1 person when you order butter chicken, nihari or anything. Not good for families. And the mutton biryani was literally a pile of rice with 3 small cubes of mutton/bone with hardly any meat.

Yelp
THE NEW LOCATION I am a fan of Zyka's original, Decatur location. They are one of the better Indian restaurants in metro Atlanta. They decided to open a second restaurant in Alpharetta. I decided to check it out. The location is a standalone building. It is large and modern looking. The original location shared a space with a dingy Montessori school. This looks like a proper restaurant in Alpharetta. They opened the new place in the later half of 2020. That is a ballsy move to open a new restaurant in the middle of the pandemic. Maybe they planned this location before 2020. Or they are gambling this space will pay off once people can dine in safely. The original location was super-popular with long wait times. They're probably thinking this will be the same. COVID I'm writing this review Jan 2021, which is in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. They require masks. You can't dine in. It is pickup only. You can order online or by phone. I think you can even go there and order in person. But I suggest ordering online. It's the most convenient. PICKUP EXPERIENCE They were meticulous packing the food. The containers had snap-top lids. It was also held together by cardboard holders to prevent it from tipping over. The pickup was fast. Since I placed the order online, I walked up, said the name, and I was on my way out. FOOD Luckily, most of the entrees were stew-like. It travels well because the flavors can get to know each other better. You can heat it up in the cardboard containers in the microwave. The food is good as the Decatur location's. If you're a fan of the original location, this is a good place to go if you're closer to Alpharetta. Chicken 65 - They probably have the best Chicken 65 in Atlanta. The chicken nuggets pieces have a nice, crispy skin. The spices were on point. I'm not sure what magic they use, but Zyka's Chicken 65 were always better than other place's. If you're doing takeout, I suggest eating these fresh while driving, so they won't be too soggy when you get home. Just pop them in your mouth as you drive. Channa Masala - It was a good Channa Masala. The flavors were mild for my tastes. It needed a bit more intensity. But this was a good Channa Masala. You can't go wrong if you like Channa Masala. Saag Paneer - This was a good saag paneer. There were more spinach than cheese, and not as creamy, which I preferred. Some people might want it more creamy. I'm not a fan of overly creamy saag paneers. For me, they had the ratio right. Aachar Gosht - This is mutton simmered in tomatoes and aromatics. The mutton had a tender texture due to the slow simmering. It was flaking off easily. The stew had a lovely tomato flavor and felt comforting. Goat Paya - This is Goat Trotters stewed overnight with onions, whole pepper¬corns, cardamom and herbs. It had a thick and heavy texture due to the collagen and marrow that was rendered out of the goat trotters. The spices were on point on this one as well. The ghee and the gelatin gave it a nice, unctuous mouth feel. It was another comforting and flavorful dish. Dal Hyderabadi - Another comforting dish. Lentil stews are my favorites of Indian cuisine. They blended the lentils to give it a smoother texture. It had a nice, creamy feel and great flavors with the spices. Another great dish. I like the food here. I don't know why the haters give this place 3 stars on Yelp (as of Jan 2021). Maybe I'm too generous? Who knows? If you're a fan of the original, check out this location.

Yelp
If there's one thing I like about Zyka, it's consistency. I have been dining at the Decatur location for more than 20 years now. Religiously, every Friday is Zyka night and we love the chicken 65 and the butter chicken. The food has always been amazing and has never changed. The naan is Fluffy and baked just right. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference between the food at either location. Both places have fantastic food.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Shit buss down af, jelqed in the bathroom and the atmosphere was amazing. I totally recommend this place, service is amazing they are super fast and nice. Food is bomb.

Alex W.

Yelp
Best Indian food in Atlanta. Everything was fresh and cooked to order. I love this place.

Scott S.

Yelp
The food always tastes great. The place is clean and friendly. My only complaint is that the butter chicken does not have much chicken in it. It's about 80% sauce and 20% chicken. No large chunks at all. It does not look like the photo on the web site. It tastes so good though I keep going back.

Krishy K.

Yelp
Ordered Naan, chicken tikka masala and Nihari.... Food quality is not the same as Decatur and how it used to be. Naan is slightly burnt and no flavor. Same with Nihari. Not sure I will go back here as there are so many other great Indian choices here in Alpharetta.

Yelp
I had the vegetable samosa and the chicken 65. Very flavorful and tasty. Service was quick.

Yelp
They are not even open for business. Waste of my travel time. Plus no message on the automated line about opening day. Annoyed.

Yelp
When you are of Indian descent - finding an Indian restaurant is hard.....For me - I am Punjabi, so if it's not North Indian food, I am not a huge fan.....more than that - for all of us - it needs to come close to Mom's cooking......it's a thing - really So Atlanta - there are a few places in this bucket for me, and sadly, all of them are in Decatur - miles and miles away - Zyka, Bhojanic, Cafe Bombay, Chai Pani.....and yeah - the nicer ones -Tabla, Blue India - but those are just nicer. For me - the places around north ATL (Alpharetta) are usually South Indian - lovely people, great part of the world, but I just have a hard time with the taste....it's a growing up thing. So all of our attempts at food up here are difficult. Along comes a new outpost of Zyka - I am excited. Truly I am. OK - Zyka is not Punjabi...best I can tell, it's Hyderabadi (the one in Pakistan) - again - lovely people, just SUPER spicy. So here are some tips - Location - Off Old Milton - across from 400 on the Johns Creek side - if you don't know exactly where it is you will miss it - it's off the road a bit - The place - spotless, trendy, modern.....you will appreciate it if you have been to the Decatur one, which is the basement of a church - like they cleaned out the meeting room and put a restaurant there. - The service - thinly staffed - I say this because if you call, you might have to hold a bit - these guys are working hard. And there is only a couple of them. But they were nice. - The food - Like I said - this is my taste. It is aromatic, rich and yeah - SPICY. Even the stuff that is supposed to be less spicy - SPICY. I think they make it ahead of time, so really no tailoring it. Some downsides - I read this before and yeah - it's right - guys - the meat, and also in my case - paneer - is SKIMPY. It's pretty reasonably priced, but still - you have to go searching for the pieces of meat or paneer - cut it out - you are better than this....maybe that's a growing pain - but it will turn people off - you need to fix this -and it's an easy fix..... - Some missing items that Decatur has - bhindi, gulab jamun.....come on - get the menu up to speed Other than that, I am really glad they are here....

Yelp
Updated Aug 2022: Went to Alpharetta location dine in and had a pleasant experience. Food was good, spicy but edible and less oil. Chicken 65, seekh kabab, naan, biryani was very good. I am so glad they have fixed some of their initial hiccups. Will definitely be going again for dine in.

Arian M.

Yelp
Amazing food and service very clean and kept restaurant. Will be returning soon!!!!!!

Yelp
Love the biryani and chicken items here. And the rabdi is to die for! Great food and this is my pick when I think of Indian food!

Yelp
Zyka in Decatur has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta, going back to when they first opened in the 90s - the new one in Alpharetta is just as good, in a much larger space. Decatur is more of a take out restaurant, but this one makes you want to dine in.

Irfan F.

Yelp
Really tasty Indian food for a very reasonable price. Check out their chicken 65 and chicken biryani!

Yelp
Ordered Chicken and mutton biryani..It is very expensive. The quantity they give is half of what we get from other similar type restaurents. And the taste seems ok. Too much oil though!!

Yelp
We love Zyka! Had been to the Decatur location and the Alpharetta one is just as good. The Tandoori chicken is wonderful. The spinach dish( forgot the name) was great. Loved the rice and Naan.

Yelp

Yelp
Food is very good and authentic. I find the service refreshing and helpful. Get the desserts. Sooo good :-)

Yelp
Been a customer since Zyka was started in Decatur . We got goat Briyani today from Alpharetta location and meat was clearly under cooked . The worst part is response provided by the guy who spoke justifying arrogantly (He tasted and Briyani is good). Food not prepared well is one thing but the response to a customer feedback

Abuzar T.

Yelp
Food was great. Chicken 65 was the best part of the overall entree. Samosas were okay. Biryani was not the best, portion sizes were a little small. They were kind enough to give us a box of nihari as well which was amazing!

Messed up my order totally and didn't realize until the store was closed. Had a word with them and they asked me to save the food boxes and bring them back in next time for a refund . Ordered tandoori chicken and boti kebab and they gave me some left over chili chicken and chicken 65. How do you mess that up unless ur stoned? Garbage. And the food is nowhere close to the original zyka in Decatur. Disgrace..

Yelp
Ordered take out. Order was ready when promised. The new location is trendy and will be great once dining is open. Food tasted pretty good. Kalimirch chicken had just as much oil floating it as it did in Decatur But its all good and expected! As usual chicken 65 was the best you can find. Gobi manchurian had a little too much fire. Will definitely go back. 4 stars because I saw a couple of staff with masks below chin...not cool guys!

Yelp
Not as good as the one in Decatur. Changed the recipe of Chicken Boti from a red spice to different yellow chicken which is not half as good. Proceeded to tell me they changed the recipe. Picture on website is not accurately reflected. With that said, everything else is great. Best Biryani in town.

Yelp
I thought the location in Decatur was bad. But I tell you they have out done in Alpharetta. If you know taste, quality, and want a good food do not try ZYKA. They have spent money on ambiance but lack in everything else which really matters and that is good taste and quality product. We had to throw away entire dinner.

Yelp
We ordered some food and were looking forward to eating hot naans but they told us when we picked up our order that naans were not available. I checked on my order because I arrived early and they never mentioned the issue to me. So instead of waiting 30 minutes, I could've canceled my order. And the employee never offered a discount or even an apology. I've been going to the Decatur location for years but I won't be spending my money here again.

Yelp
Ordered mutton biryani and kadai chicken. Mutton biryani was fine. I can easily tell by tasting kadai chicken that it is not at all fresh. Chicken turned black and simmered lot of oil on the top. Worst of the worst. Had to throw all of it !! Please do not give food to customers which is not fresh !!

Yelp
Today we ordered for a takeout as usual. The pickup was 8:45 and so we reached and I walked in for pickup. As always I asked for 2 forks as we planned to consume the food in car. Waited for about 5 mins and got my order, picked it up, asked for 2 forks, walked out and got in my car. As soon as I opened the food container and took a bite, i was totally disappointed. The food was cold, all the items. We were planning to consume it immediately but the whole plan was ruined. Would not recommend.
