The Canton Tower, also known as the Guangzhou TV & Sightseeing Tower, is an iconic landmark in Guangzhou, China. Completed in 2010 just before the Asian Games, it was briefly the tallest tower in the world at 600 meters until it was surpassed by Tokyo Skytree in 2011. Designed by the Dutch architectural firm Information Based Architecture in collaboration with Arup, the tower features a unique, slender waist that dramatically tapers in the middle, earning it the nickname "Slim Waist." This design was inspired by the Adziogol Lighthouse in Ukraine and represents a blend of Structural Expressionism and high-tech architecture.
The tower is multifunctional, housing observation decks, a revolving restaurant, a 4D cinema, and various recreational facilities. It's particularly famous for its outdoor skywalk, the highest and longest of its kind, and the "Bubble Tram" on its top, offering breathtaking views of the city. At night, the tower is illuminated with an LED system that can change colors, enhancing its presence in Guangzhou's skyline.
