Cottle Church

Historical place · Saint James Windward

"The quiet beauty of this church, built by John Cottle in 1824, is enhanced by its noble backstory—it was the first house of worship on Nevis where whites and blacks could pray together. Having fallen into ruins more than once, the church exists today as a roofless shell, but manages to retain its simple dignity and an important place in Nevis history."

Four Seasons Resort Nevis

Resort hotel · Saint Kitts and Nevis

"It’s hard to overstate the importance of this luxury resort on Pinney’s Beach. Not only did it help put Nevis on the tourism map when it opened in 1991, but it also remains the largest employer on the island. The best way to arrive is by boat—you can almost feel the serenity radiating off the dock, with the stark shadow of Nevis Peak rising behind the resort. Once on land, there’s a lot to love (tropical villas, three pools, a pristine golf course, a luxurious spa), but a morning spent at one of the resort’s beachfront cabanas makes for some of the most unforgettable moments."

Lovers Beach

Beach

"This small, undeveloped beach with views toSt. Kittsis for couples, not kids. Located down a short path from the highway, the beach has an unspoken rule to come back later if you see another car parked on the shoulder—sort of the Nevis version of the towel on the doorknob. Not only does this system preserve privacy, it helps ensure that Lovers Beach remains one of the most secluded spots in the Caribbean."

Museum of Nevis History

History museum · Saint Kitts and Nevis

"The house in which U.S. statesman Alexander Hamilton was born in 1757 and lived until he was eight years old (when he moved with his family to St. Croix) is now a museum dedicated to tracing his life and achievements. The stone house itself, while handsome, is mostly a restoration, but inside you’ll find fascinating texts describing Hamilton’s childhood, upbringing, and subsequent contribution to politics. The small museum also features a range of interesting artifacts that chart the history of Nevis, starting with the indigenous Amerindian peoples through the arrival of the Europeans and continuing right up to the present day. After touring the displays, visit the modest gift shop, where you can pick up souvenirs like local stamps and prints."

Nevis Peak

Volcano · Saint Thomas Lowland

"Nevis Peak, the towering bulge rising from the middle of the island, can be hiked alone or with a guide. If you’d rather explore with a professional, go with Lynell E. Liburd of Sunrise Tours. He’ll lead you on a strenuous hike to the summit, pointing out indigenous plant and animal species along the way."

Nisbet Plantation Beach Club

Permanently Closed

"The ancestral home of Fanny Nisbet, who married British war hero Admiral Horatio Nelson, this former plantation is now a luxury resort, popular with luminaries from Great Britain and around the world. The plantation house, which was built in 1778, serves as the restaurant and bar, behind which an avenue of palm trees marches down to the sea, flanked by charming, standalone guest villas. At the beach, you’ll find a pool and the relaxing Sea Breeze bar—one of the most relaxing spots on the island to indulge in a “Ting with a Sting” (a favorite local drink made with CSR rum and grapefruit soda)."

Oualie Beach

Beach · Saint Kitts and Nevis

"St. Kitts’ water taxis—basically anyone with a boat willing to make the crossing to Nevis—will drop you right on this beautiful stretch of sand, making Oualie Beach the perfect day trip. Once on land, head to the Oualie Beach Resort, where you can hang with guestsand locals at the on-site restaurant and bar. If you’re feeling adventurous, ask the bartender for a sample of one of the house-infused rums, made with a variety of local plants and herbs. Afterward, walk down to the beach, where you’ll find watersport vendors and even a small spa for some additional relaxation."

Pinneys beach

Beach · Saint Kitts and Nevis

"This stunning, three-mile-long beach is one of Nevis’ best. Stretching from Charlestown along most of the island’s west coast, it offers a range of diversions, from bars, cafes, and the Four Seasons Resort to beautiful scenery and fascinating wildlife. Although Pinney’s is known for its nighttime party scene, it also features plenty of secluded spots to relax, play volleyball, or enjoy a private picnic."

Sunshines Restaurant

Bar · Saint Kitts and Nevis

"Located just a short walk from the Four Seasons Resort on Pinney’s Beach, the colorful Sunshine’s Beach Bar gets its name not just from its brilliant surroundings but also from its proprietor, Llewellyn “Sunshine” Caines. A popular lunch spot with both locals and tourists, Sunshine’s offers better-than-beach-bar food—you really can’t go wrong with the barbecue ribs or the grilled lobster in garlic butter. The bar’s most famous item, however, is the seriously potent Killer Bee rum punch. Just know that one is more than enough in the hot Nevis sun."

The Gin Trap | Bar And Restaurant

"The Gin Trap A clubby, blue-lit interior adds a sense of style to this Nevis eatery, which also offers drinks and dining on outdoor couches. The fresh, local seafood is top-notch and the cocktails, which draw heavily from a collection of more than 100 gins, are just what you want on a hot Nevis night. If you can’t choose a drink, spin the wheel on the wall and let the fates pick your poison."
