"For those whose main purpose visiting New York is to see as many Broadway shows as possible, there’s no shortage of hotels to choose from in Times Square. But at Civilian—located just off Eighth Avenue on a quiet residential block of West 48th Street—you can be a world away from the hubbub while also being just a two-minute walk from the Longacre Theater. Civilian, which opened in November 2021, is the brainchild of hotelier Jason Pomeranc. Though the prices are less intimidating at this 203-room hotel, you’ll notice the same level of detail that you’d find at these other boutique brands. Here, the inspiration behind the Rockwell Group’s design is Broadway. In the main second-floor lounge, framed archival photographs from live shows, as well as miniature set designs from Company and Moulin Rouge, adorn the walls. The theatrical design extends to the rooms as well, with stage-curtain-like velvet drapes hung over four-poster beds." - Lyndsey Matthews
