"Opening June 27, this hotel — the closest in San Francisco to the Golden Gate Bridge — occupies a three-story building constructed between 1895 and 1897 as Infantry Row military barracks; its exterior is fully preserved while the renovated interior blends historical elements with modern comforts and offers spectacular views of the bridge, Alcatraz, and the city skyline. The dining room is located in the former soldiers’ mess hall, and design nods to the original floor plan include wallpaper that distinguishes new walls from old and contrasting woods on the lobby floor that echo the 1897 layout. Forty-two guest rooms feature modern amenities and Presidio-inspired artwork and murals; guests can enjoy a continental breakfast, an evening wine-and-cheese reception, teak rockers on the front porch, and a back-patio fire pit overlooking the bay. Centrally located within the 1,500-acre national park, the hotel sits next to the Walt Disney Family Museum and steps from the visitor center and transit hub with a free shuttle to 24 miles of hiking trails, an 18-hole golf course, and nearby cafés and restaurants; it also overlooks the seven-acre lawn used for summer Presidio Picnics (food trucks, kids’ cycling lessons, and free yoga). A future Tunnel Tops pedestrian connection to Chrissy Field, designed by the creators of New York’s High Line and expected in 2021, will link Infantry Row to the waterfront. Room rates start at $275, and summer reservations are already available." - Miranda Smith
