"Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts is a work of art itself: a grand neoclassical landmark built in 1909 and decorated with frescoes painted by John Singer Sargent, wed to an I.M. Pei–designed wing added in 1981. Inside, you’ll find one of the world’s greatest art collections, with hundreds of thousands of paintings, sculptures, photos, pieces of furniture and jewelry, and textiles from around the globe and stretching back in time to ancient Greece , Egypt, and Nubia (and cheers to any museum that has a gallery dedicated to Dionysus, the Greek god of wine). Concerts and live Shakespeare in the Calderwood Courtyard are Boston summer traditions, and the museum’s Japanese garden, Tenshin-en (the Garden of the Heart of Heaven), provides a serene escape from the hubbub of the Hub."
