Book a deluxe double room to bag the best space – these old houses don’t brag walk-in wardrobes. But they do have espresso machines, Egyptian cotton-clad Vispring beds and L’Occitane toiletries. The attic floor room on the fifth floor has the best views across the Royal Borough, with porthole windows in sloping eaves, and a generous private roof garden laden with potted flowers, deck chairs and a dining area.
