@cntraveler

"The oldest remaining roller rink in the U.S., the Oaks Park Skating Rink is as much a piece of history as it is a beacon of communal joy. Opened in 1905, it survived the Great Depression, the 2008 recession, and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. Some events that have been held in this Northwestern treasure include “Smooth Groove” Sunday and a monthly LGBTQ+ night. There's more to see even after you pull your skates off—the Oaks Park amusement park is also home to the Herschell–Spillman Noah’s Ark Carousel, a wooden ride built in 1912."

Mama Pauline's African Market

Grocery store · King

When Catherine moved to Portland in 2003, her soul compelled her to find a way to bring the flavors and natural goods of her culture to her new community. Inspired by and named for her mother, our market full of African products, including food, clothing, jewelry, and skincare, opened its doors in 2012. Because family is so important to us, you'll also find many of our relatives helping out around the store. When you stop by, Catherine is always more than happy to share the nutritional benefits of the spices, oils, and other authentic goods she's curated. She'll even give you recipes, too! To some, our selection is new. To others, it's full of familiar favorites. Either way, we're eager to help you find what you're looking for while making you feel right at home as you shop.
