"So, what’s this place about? Etihad Modern Art Gallery, a snazzy modern art gallery, showcases some of the best contemporary artworks in Abu Dhabi. Even as a newcomer, it quickly earned a reputation within the U.A.E.—and beyond—as one of the world's most thoughtfully curated collections of Emirati artists. How’s the space? The multi-tiered space boasts a small garden courtyard, a latticed gate, and intimate showrooms. It feels more like a warm, residential space than stark gallery. The art’s the main thing, of course. How is it? The bulk of the work showcases the burgeoning Emirati art scene; say, paintings and photography by up-and-coming artists throughout the U.A.E. The gallery also hosts exhibits that celebrate international artists—including one featuring 160 Japanese artists—as well as poetry nights and concerts. Did you meet anyone on staff? Did they make an impression? Given the small space, there is typically one person on hand, and you can count on him or her to have detailed knowledge about the artists on display.
