Marsha P. Johnson State Park

State park · Williamsburg

@cntraveler

"Named for Marsha P. Johnson, a pivotal player in 1969's Stonewall uprising, this is the first new York state park to honor a trans woman of color. The entry gate pays homage to Johnson’s signature floral hairpiece, and Johnson’s signature phrase “pay it no mind” adorns the entry to inspire generations of activists not to be deterred by their oppressors. Oddly enough, the waterfront park in Williamsburg doesn’t allow dogs despite Johnson herself being a dog lover." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner
