"Perched on Museum Island, the domed Protestant cathedral is an extravagant historical patchwork—its lineage stretches from a 1465 church through Baroque and neoclassical rebuilds to the 1894–1905 reconstruction under Emperor Wilhelm II—and what visitors see today is the result of post–World War II exterior restoration completed in 1983 and an interior restoration finished in 2002. The lavish interior—mosaics, statues, and gold details—is stunning, the Hohenzollern Crypt (currently closed for renovations until 2026) houses 90 royal tombs, and if possible I try to time visits to a concert on the cathedral’s organ, which was Germany’s largest when it was built in 1905." - Liz Humphreys, Krystin Arneson
