"A New York–based boutique cake shop opened its first Texas boutique at the Houston Galleria on May 25, making a permanent commitment to the state. Known for its handmade mille crepe cakes — each built from about 20 delicate, “paper-thin” layers — the shop has developed a cult-like reputation for pristine appearance and precise composition. Cakes are available as whole cakes or slices to-go (with limited counter seating) and come in more than 10 flavors, including green tea, the new guava, Berry Mont Blanc, tiramisu, and the signature original. The desserts marry French baking techniques with Japanese cooking styles, emphasize a designer-like product free of additives and preservatives, and command premium prices (more than $60 for a 6-inch and over $100 for a 9-inch). The brand launched in New York in 2001 and now operates nearly 40 locations worldwide (including Hong Kong, Taipei, and Singapore) with 18 in the U.S." - Brittany Britto Garley
