"This longstanding truffle shop at 754 Columbus Avenue, XOX Truffles Inc., has been operated by Jean‑Marc Gorce since 1998 and is popular among neighbors and tourists; Gorce says he was assaulted at the store this past week by homeless people and was rescued by his 13-year-old son, Sébastien, who grabbed the baseball bat kept in the back to come to his rescue. According to SFPD's account to CBS SF, the alleged attacker had been causing a scene inside the shop after Gorce asked him to leave and then reportedly put Gorce in a choke hold; the suspect was arrested on three felony charges — assault with a deadly weapon, felonious threats, and false imprisonment. Gorce had left his role as a chef after suffering a heart attack at age 30 in favor of a healthier lifestyle, starting the small daytime business with his wife, and local outlets note the incident follows other highly publicized attacks in the city." - Caleb Pershan
