Take a Look Around the New Tobacco Road Tribute Bar Now Open in Brickell | Eater Miami

"Housed at 650 South Miami Avenue in Brickell, I found Tobacco Road by Kush to be a 50 percent pop-up and 50 percent homage to Miami’s original Tobacco Road, which famously closed after 102 years in the fall of 2014; Matt Kuscher of Kush Hospitality Group partnered with Patrick Gleber, one of the original owners, and emphasizes he isn’t trying to recreate the old bar but to capture its spirit so people can eat, drink, reminisce, and indulge in nostalgia. The new outpost occupies the former River Oyster Bar just doors down from the original location and mixes original vintage gig posters dating into the 1980s and old Miami memorabilia with new, tongue-in-cheek décor like signage reading “Legalize Kush” and “This Sh*t Ain’t the Real Tobacco Road,” a small stage and live performance area, seating for 95 (plus outdoor seating for 10) and a 30-person private dining space soon to be converted into a VIP room. The menu focuses on American bar food with a twist — wings rubbed with Old Bay and sofrito, barbecue chicken nachos, bang bang shrimp, vegan jambalaya, chicken and waffles, and a “death” burger topped with sautéed onions, jalapeños, spicy mayo and siracha — and the beverage program ranges from a large beer selection categorized as draft, craft, and “shitty” to cocktails with cheeky names like the Dan F*cking Marino (Montelobos, campari, and vermouth), Sh*t Miami Girls Say (a “bubble gum” Cosmo), This Ain’t the Real Tobacco Road (a take on the infamous Moose Juice that comes complete with a free souvenir cup), and the Pinga Colada made with Havana Club rum; there’s also an extensive whiskey list and a “Shit*y & Mini” section serving dive-bar classics such as Beam and Coke and scotch and soda with a mini liquor bottle flipped upside down in the glass. Tobacco Road by Kush is open Sunday–Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday–Saturday until midnight; call 786-703-3120 for more information." - Olee Fowler
