"Set to replace the long-empty Cafe 56 on Black Mountain Road, the Rancho Penasquitos Knotty Barrel will begin construction at the end of the month and is due to debut in Spring 2019 after an extensive remodel; it will feature a 4,000-square-foot interior and a 2,000-square-foot patio with fire pits and lawn games. President Ken Lovi told Eater the expansion intends to provide a new family-friendly dining option to the still-underserved area, and the North County location will offer the core menu (starters, sandwiches, burgers, entrees such as chipotle-glazed meatloaf and mac and cheese) with more kid-friendly choices, a full cocktail bar, the house beer from East Village, and year-round weekend brunch service (unlike the East Village location)." - Candice Woo
