"When Longway Tavern opened earlier this month, it was one the newest restaurants in New Orleans, opening in one of the city’s oldest buildings. The 719 Toulouse building housing the restaurant was built in 1794, given a new life with new takes on classic eats, like bread and butter with lardo and home fries with pork belly and caviar. The project from the masterminds behind Barrel Proof — Robért LeBlanc, John Sinclair and Liam Deegan — has now been in operation for about two weeks and the buzz online at places like Facebook, Yelp is palpable. Folks are praising not only the tasty food, but also the chill vibe — which is in keeping with the intentions of the owners, to make Longway a comfortable “third place,” outside of home and work. Said space (naturally) has a storied history — in the middle of last century it was home to local intellectuals Roark and Mary Rose Bradford, who themselves hosted folks like William Faulkner and Ernest Hemingway. Most recently 719 Toulouse was home to Little Vic’s, which served Italian eats and was known for its biscotti gelato. Longway Tavern is open everyday, the bar from 4pm - 12am Sundays through Thursdays and 4pm - 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. Food is available 5pm to 12am everyday. Happy hour is from 4pm until 6pm daily." - Alison Baitz
