"Opening May 12 in Pacific Heights, this highly-pedigreed wine shop is the polished San Francisco outpost of NYC’s Verve Wine, owned by master sommelier Dustin Wilson and partner Derrick Mize, with Eric Railsback overseeing West Coast operations. I note its San Francisco roots and pedigree—Wilson and Railsback both worked at RN74 with Rajat Parr, collaborated on the wine list at Mason Pacific, and Wilson later served as wine director at Eleven Madison Park and appeared in the film Somm. The 1,000-square-foot space at 2358 Fillmore at Washington St., a former shoe store just up the hill from The Snug, will stock about 500 bottles in-store and offer 3,000 labels online for shipping; the shop emphasizes small-production wines, including harder-to-find imports from Italy and France as well as California producers, and will host classes and tastings with producers and importers while expanding fulfillment to make shipping in California and across the U.S. easier." - Ellen Fort
