"At 749 8th Street SE, this family-run outpost is scheduled to open in spring 2025 and will occupy the former District Doughnut space. The concept emphasizes a 24-hour brioche dough recipe, brightly colored glazes, and complex flavor profiles, with decadent items such as maple bacon; mixed-berry cheesecake; guava and cheese topped with a puff pastry streusel; and Oreo-encrusted doughnut holes, plus city-specific releases. The coffee program, fueled by Intelligentsia, includes inventive drinks like cinnamon cereal milk lattes and a maple-and-brown-sugar cold brew. Reflecting its beachfront roots, store design leans on tropical tones, pastel-pink espresso machines, and palm prints. Regarding the handover from the prior tenant, “We saw a perfect opportunity to hand the reins to a worthy successor in creating the best donut and coffee experience in D.C.,” per a statement from District Doughnut. The founding couple, Amanda Pizarro-Rodriguez and Andy Rodriguez, began the brand in 2015 in a vintage trailer in Wynwood, and the operation has since been cited as one of the best doughnut shops in America by Thrillist, Food & Wine, and Tasting Table." - Tierney Plumb
