"Vintage is all the rage at Sonny’s Pizza, a sprawling indoor-outdoor ode to the 1980s in University Heights. Opened partners Jeff Fink and Matt Sieve of nearby Madison on Park and Madi, chef Tony Gutíerrez and pizzaiolo José “Franky” Pereyra, the wood-paneled indoor conjures gritty Brooklyn pizzerias. The rotating gas-and-wood combination oven churns out plush New York-style personal sized pizzas topped with ricotta, pepperoni, ham, pineapple, and jalapeño, sided with well-dressed gem lettuce Caesar salads and breadcrumb-topped baked clams.
