"A coastal hotel that contains four restaurant spaces taken over in 2017 by husband-and-wife restaurateurs Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee was evacuated this week after rain on fire-scorched slopes triggered mudslides that ruptured water pipes and dislodged fire hydrants. County public health officials ordered restaurants in the affected water district to cease handling food—permitting only the sale of unopened, prepackaged items—and issued a boil-water advisory instructing residents to boil water for at least 60 seconds before using it for dishes, teeth brushing, food preparation, or handwashing due to risk of stomach and intestinal illness. Officials also warned people to stay out of ocean water and said the damage to the local water supply infrastructure makes it unclear when normal service and restaurant operations can resume; these warnings apply to neighborhoods served by the Montecito Water District and not to neighboring Santa Barbara or Carpinteria." - Mona Holmes
