"Conceived as an ambitious market and all-day cafe and opened in November 2021, Taylor Street Kitchen is wide open and airy, deliberately recalling other iconic Portland markets while offering coffee and pastries, lunchtime salads and sandwiches, family-night pizza, date-night wine, and a market that emphasizes Oregon producers. Burmeister assembled a small team of established local talent—baker Jared Stiffler (who supplies sandwich bread, whole loaves for sale, and a slow-fermented pizza dough), chef Bill Wallender (who focuses on seasonal vegetables from local farms for pizzas and salads), and pastry chef Ken Puckett (cheesecakes, cookies, carrot cake)—and anchored the space with a deli case of the chefs’ creations, cafe-style seating, a wide selection of Oregon beer and wine (from Willamette Valley pinot to orange wines, biodynamic options, pet-nats, and lambruscos), pantry shelves stocked with local items like Henry Storch honey and Loving Fungi root beer, and cold cases with pork and chicken from Totum Farm. Burmeister describes the project as ‘a lot of things at once’ and is planning ways to make the market more welcoming to office workers, families, Timbers fans, and local students, hoping it will feel like a downtown stalwart that has been and will be there forever." - Thom Hilton
