"Opening for outdoor dining with a small soft launch tomorrow at 5 p.m., I expect The Cloverfield—located in the former Spitfire Grill space across from the Santa Monica Airport—to keep a relaxed, plane-watching vibe while offering thin-crust pizza, housemade pastas, burgers, steaks, salads, lots of California craft beer and cocktails (including some hard-to-source gin). Mary Thompson will oversee the beverage program as general manager, Alfred Salvatierra will run the kitchen, and owner Sean Martin, an Irish expat who runs a London bar called the Pregnant Man, named the restaurant after the airport's old name. The setup allows for nearly 100 outdoor patio seats with plans for indoor dining once the pandemic is over, reservations will open soon via Resy." - Farley Elliott
