"A cheeky new cocktail bar will open next door to the original theater space at 3532 SE Division Street in late May, created by a team including Hey Love co-owners Emily Mistell and Nicholas Musso, ex-pro skateboarder and Cat’s Paw owner Mickey Reyes, Sweet Hereafter bartender Dylan Long, and chef Sam Smith. They intend to make a casual, neighborhood watering hole with a sense of quirkiness rather than a heavy concept; Mistell describes the project as whimsical and not hyper-conceptualized. The beverage program leans nostalgic and playful, promising items like s’mores espresso martinis, coconut lemon drops, a melon ball Negroni with yogurt soju, and a Buffalo michelada with blue cheese and Frank’s Red Hot served in a Coors Banquet bottle, alongside novelty pairings such as buttered popcorn Old Fashioneds and esquites Cup Noodles. Smith will bring a remixed Cup Noodle pop-up to the kitchen with tricked-out instant noodles — one riff on esquites and another inspired by Korean budae jjigae with kimchi, American cheese, and Spam. Musso, who works as a carpenter and builder on projects like Victoria, Dig a Pony, and Cafe Olli, is handling the design, accentuating pre-existing elements with walnut slats, jade green leather booths, antique pendant lamps, an arched bronze backbar, and three original paintings commissioned from Hey Love alumnus Brad Hoseley." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
