Kevin Gillespie Reopening Backyard Decatur Beer Garden Communion - Eater Atlanta
"Chef Kevin Gillespie’s beer garden Communion behind his Southern restaurant Revival in Decatur is reopening to the public Saturday, September 8. Unlike the previous iteration, this go-around Communion is only open on the weekends and is focused on fall, food, and football. The backyard bar opens at noon Saturdays and Sundays—rain or shine. The plan is to remain open through Sunday, November 25. Communion closed to the public last summer due to increased demand for private events and unpredictable weather conditions. Patrons can purchase food and drinks from a truck parked in the yard. Gillespie is planning to offer traditional game day eats like four types of wings, chicken tenders, and French fries along with craft beer, wine, and rotating weekly cocktails. “We want Communion to be that go-to gathering spot for catching up over a beer and a casual meal or enjoying a good football game,” Gillespie says in a prepared statement. “I know that’s where I plan to be cheering on the Dawgs and the Falcons.” Communion features a shaded bar, two televisions, several communal picnic tables, and games like cornhole.
