"Originally conceived as a one-year “on a lark” project, this neighborhood bar unexpectedly survived seven years and a pandemic before moving around the corner into a new Market Street space on April 3. When Future Bars took over the former Dave’s Bar in 2016 they deliberately preserved the watering-hole vibe: the same colors and wood, a back bar built to match the original Third Street bar, and all the sports memorabilia and art (including a 1961 orange-and-black Studebaker Lark, golf clubs, Warriors and Giants items, and the McCovey Cove canoe) were transported to the new location. Longtime regulars are honored throughout — David Root’s personal photographs are displayed in the restrooms and antique baseball bats engraved with regulars’ names are tucked into the space — and the owners stress it remains the same in essentials: the same beers, the same cocktails, the same prices, and the same staff. The Lark aims to remain a comfortable neighborhood sports bar for everyone and is open 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday–Thursday, 2 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday–Saturday, and noon to 1:30 a.m. on Sunday." - Dianne de Guzman
