"Founded by pastry chef Dana Salls Cree as an offshoot of her work at Publican and Blackbird and her 2017 book Hello, My Name Is Ice Cream, this two-location dessert shop specializes in handmade ice cream bars, ice pops, and other creative frozen treats after pivoting from an originally planned scoop shop. For Halloween the operator transformed both pop-up locations into temporary scoop shops (Oct. 26–27), offering eight composed, book-derived gluten-free scoop flavors—mint chocolate chip cookie dough; chocolate peanut butter brownie crunch; gooey butter bake; pumpkin butterscotch pecan; rainbow sherbet; kids play (goat cheese); lemony lemon crème fraîche; and cookies, cookies, and cream—with gluten-free cones to accommodate the owner’s celiac diagnosis. The production yielded 5,000 scoops priced at $6 each ($7 for a split scoop), with leftovers sold in pints; the owner’s award-winning book was also available for purchase. The event was presented as a chance to revisit the complex flavors and textures of scooped ice cream, and the owner says she’d consider a year-round scoop shop if demand supports it." - Lisa Shames
