"I've long regarded this as one of San Diego’s essential diners and a La Jolla fixture for decades, and the family-run Harry’s Coffee Shop is now expanding to Del Mar: owners Liz Rudolph-Gotfredson and her brother John are taking over the spaces on Camino Del Mar (formerly Americana and Elixir). They've already assumed operations of Americana and will change its signage to Harry’s by the end of September, and the revamped menu will bring popular diner items like the BW Benny, a bacon-studded waffle topped with ham and poached eggs. The Del Mar location will also be open for dinner, serving elevated bistro dishes along with wine and cocktails, as the siblings plan to expand the menu and incorporate favorites from the La Jolla spot; the business continues a family legacy that began when their parents, Harry and Catherine, opened the original New York-style diner in the ’60s after moving from Brooklyn to follow the Dodgers." - Helen I.
