"During Episode 3 I watched Abbey Humphreys interview and do a bartending trial at an East Sixth bar called Latchkey; she claimed to have waitressed and bartended at a country club but admitted on camera she “hasn’t bartended in years” (she’s 26). In the trial she seemed nervous, failed a pour test, made a cocktail her friends deemed undrinkable, grabbed bottles by the body instead of the neck, scooped ice with the tin, and ultimately was not invited back. Eater’s emails to Latchkey went unanswered, so I assembled a panel of local bartenders who noted a few correct moves on camera (a good draft pour head, a two-bottle pour, an acceptable shake and wash line) but overwhelmingly criticized her bottle hold, overpouring, poor shaker technique, lack of basic bar technique and confidence, and concluded she likely had at most brief college- or low-volume–bar experience — if any." - Erin Russell
