"Located in the new Riverview building in LoHi, I encountered Daughter Thai Kitchen & Bar, the new restaurant from Ounjit Hardacre (owner of Citizen Thai in Golden) that brings an elegant, boutique-style Thai dining option to an upscale spot between the Platte River and I-25. Hardacre told me she wanted to recreate the kind of decorative, leisurely Thai restaurants she knew in San Francisco, so she focused as much on the design as the food to create a memorable space. The centerpiece is a set of large red-and-gold lanterns—meant to evoke temple bells and weighing about 80 pounds—set among simple, elegant flourishes like white curtains, a red bar, and a mural of a dancing woman and a Thai temple at sunset (the woman represents the “daughter,” which is why the owners named the restaurant their daughter). The food and cocktails follow that stylish approach: dishes such as the Kang Ped Duck and the Pad Thai Gong are beautifully presented (the Pad Thai Gong comes with jumbo prawns and a purple orchid), and the cocktails are richly colored and carefully garnished." - Paul Albani-Burgio
