"There’s a brand new taqueria and tequila bar in Dorchester’s Savin Hill neighborhood, courtesy of the owners of Savin Bar and Kitchen. The spicily named Ghost Pepper opens today, October 1, occupying the space adjacent to Savin Bar and Kitchen, which has been operating in the neighborhood for almost a decade. Ghost Pepper’s menu features various tacos and small plates (fried plantains, papas bravas, empanadas, pupusas) and entrees such as skirt steak with cilantro chimichurri, pan-roasted chicken in adobo sauce, and crispy pork belly with a tamarind glaze. The dessert menu features churros, tres leches cake, flan, and sorbet. To drink, there are nine beers on draft — several of which are brewed locally — as well as a number of bottled beers, red and white wine options, cocktails, and an extensive tequila list. There are also mocktails, including one made with passionfruit, pineapple, elderflower, and Red Bull. “We want to bring a Mexican kitchen and tequila bar to the Savin Hill neighborhood,” owner Driscoll DoCanto told Eater earlier this year. The space has enough seating for 100, and it features 15-foot ceilings. The bar is U-shaped, and the restaurant’s interior includes “pops of color, elements of natural wood, and concrete,” according to DoCanto. Ghost Pepper is initially open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and from noon to 10 p.m. on weekends, however DoCanto and the team plan to extend those hours soon after opening. Head down to Savin Hill, eat a bunch of tacos, and work your way through Ghost Pepper’s tequila list. Update, 10:30 a.m.: Ghost Pepper’s hours and menu are limited for the first few days as the team gets fully up and running. More of a grand opening is planned for later in the week." - Terrence Doyle
