"Chef Adiam Tsegaye of Ethiopian restaurant Mela Bistro says that after years of struggling to navigate the impacts of COVID on her business, she feels ignored by the city. In the last few months, Tsegaye says her employees’ cars have been stolen, broken into, or vandalized. She’s cut hours and days for her staff because she doesn’t want anyone to stay at the restaurant past 9 p.m. for safety reasons. During a recent brunch service, eight of her customers’ cars were broken into in less than 15 minutes." - Dianne de Guzman
