"Inside 56 Brewing's taproom I found Kernza® Harvest, a dunkelweissen-style amber lager brewed in collaboration with Fresh Energy, Cascadian Farms, Bare Honey, and Connexus Energy and made with 100% pollinator-friendly solar energy. The partnership grew after owner Kale Johnson met Fresh Energy’s Rob Davis and Cascadian Farms’ Tammy Kimbler during the 2019 introduction of Solarama Crush, which used hulls from the Kernza® grain and sent seed into a Cascadian Farms cereal. Kernza® is a perennial grain developed by the University of Minnesota prized for its massive root system and soil-health benefits, and Cascadian Farms donated several hundred boxes of its cultish, toasty, barely sweet Kernza® flakes (Bare Honey also contributed), which contribute to the beer’s toasty, barely sweet character. Built to complement crunchy leaves, late-night bonfires, and cable-knit sweaters, the limited one-tank Kernza® Harvest is 5% ABV and available exclusively in the taproom by the glass (10 oz for $5 or 16 oz for $7) or in a crowler ($9)." - Joy Summers
