"During a July 4 dinner service, the Ravenna location of Mioposto came to a bizarre and sudden end around 8:20 p.m. when an SUV ran a red light on 35th Avenue Northeast and crashed through the dining room's glass wall; Vania Kurniawati said the car was 'maximum speed' and that it 'kind of looked like it was a movie' before glass shards filled the room. Three people, including Kurniawati, were taken to the hospital with injuries the restaurant says were not life-threatening, and after the Chevy Tahoe smashed through the wall it began to leak gas. I observed that the restaurant staff responded heroically—marketing director Robyn Nielsen praised Jolyn for organizing guests and guiding them out the back door, Garret and Evan for physically carrying people out, Diana for reentering to retrieve belongings, and Victoria for consoling shaken guests and staff. Police told the Seattle Times the driver was not under the influence and was not arrested at the scene, though the driver may face significant financial penalties in civil court. It’s unclear when the Ravenna location will reopen; Nielsen said the top priority is supporting the Ravenna team and that their jobs are secure, while Mioposto continues to operate three other Seattle-area locations and plans a new Eastlake restaurant later this summer." - Harry Cheadle
