"Opening Tuesday, March 13, the Baja-Mex restaurant and tequila bar Chido + Padre’s promises Buckhead a “fiesta forever” and will replace the recently shuttered Smoke Belly BBQ. Part of Southern Proper Hospitality (Big Ketch, Tin Lizzy’s, Gypsy Kitchen), it says it will celebrate Mexico’s fresh, coastal cuisine, and the main dining room and bar—under the watchful eye of a Frida Kahlo piece—are apparently separated by a chain-link fence. Executive chef Jonathan Mercado, who has worked at Rosa Mexicano, True Foods Kitchen, and Bartaco, leads the kitchen, which offers familiar dishes like quesadillas, fajitas, and tostadas alongside coastal-leaning items such as a campechana (seafood cocktail) with rock shrimp, fish-of-the-day, mango, avocado, and coconut rice, and a chicken mole with cabbage slaw, black beans, and sesame seeds. Margarita lovers get six choices, including one made with hibiscus-infused tequila. Hours are Sunday–Thursday 11 a.m.–11 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 11 a.m.–1 a.m.; the restaurant is located at 128 East Andrews Drive, Atlanta (chidoandpadres.com)." - Beth McKibben
