"After eight years of waiting, it looks like Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles may finally be opening in San Diego’s Barrio Logan: I've been following this project since 2016, and construction on the National Avenue site at the corner of National and Sigsbee — a 17,500-square-foot property that will include a parking lot — has restarted after pauses in 2017 and late 2022, with activity picking back up in 2021 and a target opening within the next few months. The planned 6,000-square-foot restaurant will have its own parking lot and a rooftop dining deck. Founded in 1975 by Herb Hudson, the legendary soul-food chain is known for Southern classics — breakfast specials, chicken tenders, and its famous fried chicken and waffles served with sides like grits, mac and cheese, and greens — and Hudson has said his goal is to provide as much employment as he can, calling San Diego "one of the best markets in the nation." - Candice Woo
