"A popular Andersonville drag-and-burger destination is listed for sale at 5400-5402 N. Clark Street; the SVN Chicago Commercial listing names Hamburger Mary’s and details included business assets such as all “unencumbered” fixtures and equipment and pro-rated licenses (incidental liquor, retail food, and sidewalk cafe) while excluding brewing equipment and the POS system, with an asking price of $185,000. The Andersonville location first opened in 2006 and serves as Hamburger Mary’s International’s “world HQ,” and owners later added Mary’s Attic upstairs in 2007 and a sports bar next door three years after that. Co-owner Brandon Wright says there is still more than a year left on the restaurant’s current lease and he plans to remain for the duration while hoping eventually to relocate to a spot with a larger dining area and lower rent. Best known for a festive vibe, creative burger combinations, and talented drag performers, the franchise also touts home-brewed ales and a “classy-kitsch” personality—“Eat, Drink, and be MARY!”—and operates outposts across several states; a second Illinois Mary’s in Oak Park will remain open." - Naomi Waxman
