"Opened October 10 in Austin’s West Oak Hill neighborhood within the Lantana Place development, this new Japanese spot focuses on several affordable omakase options for lunch and dinner. Offerings include a grand omakase ($54 lunch / $59 dinner), a regular omakase ($34 / $39), a lighter omakase with fewer dishes ($24 / $29), and a hand-roll omakase ($31 / $36); sets typically include salads, sashimi, nigiri, and a hand roll, with additional à la carte appetizers, nigiri, and rolls as well as house-made soy sauce and ponzu. Beverage choices feature sakes, wines, and beers, and the price points are reminiscent of Austin’s other affordable omakase spots like Uroko. The dining room was designed by Chioco Design and Helms Workshop and includes indoor booths, banquettes, bar seating, wood-paneled walls, and a tiled counter-window into the kitchen. Executive chef Jc Dominguez—whose résumé includes Sugarfish, DOMODOMO, Shikku, and Sushi Seki—oversees the kitchen, while general manager Steven Min brings experience managing restaurants in Southern California, including the Boiling Crab. This is the first restaurant from Double V Hospitality, founded by Samit Varma (founder of Pizza Studio) and Brad Van Otterloo, who say they chose far southwest Austin for its energy and limited sushi options; the restaurant sits in the same plaza as Moviehouse, Ling Wu, La Popular, and La Traviata. It operates 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., is walk-in only (no reservations), and offers indoor dine-in service." - Nadia Chaudhury
