"On Wednesday, May 5, I'll visit Torchy’s Tacos’ first North Carolina location, opening at 1110 Mercantile Drive in the Midtown East development off Wake Forest Road in Raleigh. Based out of Austin, the chain started as a taco trailer in 2006 and quickly expanded into brick-and-mortar restaurants; in early 2020 CEO G.J. Hart said he wanted to double the number of locations to roughly 160 by 2023. For the opening, the first 100 customers will receive a Torchy’s T-shirt that entitles the wearer to free chips and queso every day for a year. The taqueria emphasizes fresh ingredients — it makes tortillas in-house — and fans come for the various tacos (including breakfast tacos), its queso, and fresh margaritas." - Erin Perkins
