"Coming to D.C. this November, I’m intrigued by a bar disguised as an ice cream shop opening at 675 I Street NW: Tipsy Scoop, billed as NYC’s first alcoholic ice cream parlor, is bringing its first-ever “barlour” outside New York with a tentative opening on Saturday, November 18 and plans to operate Tuesdays–Sundays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., taking over the old Baker’s Daughter space. They specialize in ice creams and sorbets infused with mixed drinks, stouts, and wines, with each cup, cone, and pint at about 5% ABV (the equivalent of a regular beer), and D.C. will get an on-brand cherry blossom flavor made with Ivy City distiller Republic Restoratives’ Civic Vodka. Crowd-pleasing flavors headed to the shop include Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel, Spiked Hazelnut Iced Coffee, Tequila Mexican Hot Chocolate, and Mango Margarita Sorbet; seasonal offerings and fall options include a Mudslide made with Mozart chocolate pumpkin and coffee liqueur and a Barr Hill Bees Knees Sorbet. Patrons can order boozy ice cream “flights” on a wooden board or seasonal sundaes topped with sprinkles and gummies; the 21-and-up shop will also sell pints, ice cream sandwiches, and boozy cakes with takeout, delivery, and catering options. Founded by Melissa Tavss—whose family history in ice cream stretches back to a Scottish pushcart and involvement in the Ice Cream Alliance in Britain—Tipsy Scoop started in Manhattan in 2017 and has since expanded to Long Beach and Brooklyn, with further plans for Phoenix and Portland." - Tierney Plumb
