"Located at 5 Market Square SW and slated to open first in early spring 2025, this family-owned operation — founded in 2015 by culinary couple Amanda Pizarro-Rodriguez and Andy Rodriguez, who opened the shop in a vintage camping trailer in Wynwood — is built around a 24-hour brioche dough recipe, brightly colored glazes, and complex flavor profiles. Standout offerings include maple bacon; mixed-berry cheesecake; guava and cheese topped with a puff pastry streusel; and Oreo-encrusted doughnut holes, along with city-specific releases. A creative coffee program fueled by Intelligentsia features cinnamon cereal milk lattes and cold brew made with maple and brown sugar. The Wharf spot will sit in scenic, glass-enclosed digs along the Southwest Waterfront, and store decor pays homage to its beachfront roots with lots of tropical tones, pastel-pink espresso machines, and palm prints. This location takes over the former home of District Doughnut, and “We saw a perfect opportunity to hand the reins to a worthy successor in creating the best donut and coffee experience in D.C.,” per a statement from District Doughnut. The brand now maintains over a dozen U.S. locations across Florida, Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas and has been named one of the best doughnut shops in America by Thrillist, Food & Wine, and Tasting Table." - Tierney Plumb
