"Set in a historic Victorian house, I learned Marigold Kitchen — the BYOB on 45th and Larchwood known for its avant-garde tasting menu — will close for good this week, with its final night on Thursday, January 31. Open in its current tasting-menu format for about a decade, it couldn’t survive the abrupt shutter of its sister spot Talk. The building has housed a restaurant since the 1930s and was purchased by the Rastelli family in the late 1950s (a Rastelli still owns the building); it went through several incarnations before Steve Cook took over the space in 2004 and hired Mike Solomonov. Robert Halpern bought Marigold in 2009 and turned it into the tasting-menu-only destination it later became. Tim Lanza and Andrew Kochan, who were chefs under Halpern and took over ownership in 2014, ran the intimate West Philly BYOB, joined in May 2018 by chef Eric Leveille from the now-closed Whetstone Tavern, and focused on classic and new flavor combinations, contemporary cooking techniques, and local, seasonal ingredients." - Rachel Vigoda
