"At 1130 Yuma Court in Lincoln Park, I learned The Coffee Joint received a cannabis consumption establishment license—rooted in Denver's 2016 Initiative 300—making it the first cafe in the U.S. licensed to allow on-site marijuana use. Customers won’t be able to buy or smoke pot on-site, but they can use vaporizers and consumer edibles inside; the business is being branded on its website as a “cannabis entertainment and educational center.” Dispensary customers may enter the coffee shop for free while new patrons pay a $5 entry fee; tastings and other events are planned, but for now visitors can receive a free cup of coffee and tour the retail store to hear about future offerings. The plan faced no opposition at its public hearing, and the move follows Colorado's earlier legalization steps (Amendment 64 in 2012) that allowed purchases but not public consumption." - Josie Sexton
