"Opening in early December at 4024 Campbell Avenue in the Village at Shirlington, this “neo-retro” restaurant and retail market from Cheesetique founder Jill Erber and James Beard–nominated chef Cathal Armstrong centers on homemade pastas and seasonal ingredients, presenting playful updates on classic Italian dishes like chicken Vesuvio with red chili and sage, bone-in veal parmesan, carbonara built with homemade guanciale, and a cannoli cheesecake; the menu will use cured and preserved elements in colder months and local produce in spring and summer. Armstrong says, “Every day you will see us making pasta in the front window.” The beverage program includes an all-Italian wine list, negronis, spritzes, and a bar dedicated to amaro, while Erber will stock a gourmet market up front with take-home pastas, sauces, Italian cheeses and wine, salumi, and other pantry staples. Dining options range from relaxed bar and bistro seating to two moodier private rooms—the Mona Lisa Salon and the Chairman’s Lounge—with dinner service in the main dining room and salon and lunch added a few weeks after opening." - Tierney Plumb
