"Projected to open Friday, July 27 at 11 a.m., I note Presidential Scoops (1450 G Street NW) is a tiny, patriotic-themed ice cream shop serving 16 politically inspired flavors favored by U.S. presidents, including Lincoln’s Salted Caramel Pretzel, Obama’s Strawberry Jubilee, Nixon’s Cookie and Cream Crumble, President Donald Trump’s preferred Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and JFK’s America’s Birthday Cake. I report that orders come as one to three scoops for $4.95 to $6.95 (sprinkles are 95 cents extra), with a “double scoop” option — reportedly the portion Trump requests at meetings — and that the product is sourced from the longtime family-owned Bassetts factory in Philadelphia. Owned by Jim Warlick, who also runs nearby White House Gifts and Presidential Gallery and collects extensive JFK memorabilia (including the last car JFK rode in in Ft. Worth), the shop will have six-year-old presidential scholar Zachary Tzegaegbe do the ribbon cutting, and ice cream will be free for about the first hour on opening day." - Tierney Plumb
