"As a Hawaiian-inspired chain, Pokeworks is the latest poke player aiming to curb D.C.’s craving for raw fish bowls, and it plans to open seven locations across the city over the next several years. I see the first under that multi-unit agreement slated to open at 1110 Vermont Avenue NW some time in September. Founded in 2015 in Irvine, Calif., the brand currently has a local outpost inside Annandale, Va.’s Asian food court The Block, where it serves poke bowls, burritos, and salads; its build-your-own menu mixes proteins, sauces, and toppings and even includes one-off items like kale noodle bowls. Created by brothers Michael Wu and Peter Yang with Kevin Hsu and Kasper Hsu, Pokeworks first popped up in Midtown Manhattan and has since expanded coast to coast." - Tierney Plumb
