"Located at 2200 Mission Street, Duc Loi Supermarket—owned by Howard and Amanda Ngo—has posted a note on its doors announcing that "we, Duc Loi, will no longer be in operation." I found multiple phone calls to the business went unanswered and it's unclear whether the original location is currently open; a tipster reported Amanda Ngo told them the business would close "next week." The same owners as Temescal Produce Market are set to take over on Tuesday, August 14 and rename it International Produce Market. The neighborhood grocer was much more than a simple supermarket to its fans: the banh mi sandwiches were huge and cheap (about $9), and chocolate and peanut butter malt balls reigned supreme. According to the business website, the original shop opened in 1998 down the block before the Ngos bought the corner of 18th and Mission streets; the couple expanded into the Bayview in 2016 with Duc Loi Pantry (which closed in 2019), and the Ngos hope to reopen the Pantry someday." - Paolo Bicchieri
