"Reopening for takeout after a 2019 bankruptcy closure, this long-running Goldsboro eatery — in operation since 1962 and named for proprietor Wilberdean Shirley — was purchased by Goldpit Partners, a group of locals who grew up in the town and wanted to protect its legacy. The new ownership, led in part by co-owner Willis Underwood, intends to restore the restaurant to the version they remember by infusing new capital and energy to preserve and continue a time-tested Eastern North Carolina whole-hog barbecue tradition. The menu centers on pulled pork dressed in the region’s characteristic vinegar-based sauce, and service is currently curbside with hours Wednesday–Saturday 11 a.m.–7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.–3 p.m." - Erin Perkins
