"Opened at the end of August at 2832 Southeast Belmont Street, La Patroncita is a sleek, feminine new outpost from the daughter of the Salsas Locas owners that positions itself as a go-to for powerful margaritas and cinnamony, sugary buñuelos. I note the entrepreneur is prioritizing a polished ambiance, family dishes including enchiladas and her mother’s desserts, and live music such as mariachi. The menu reads more modern than a classic old-school taqueria but draws on her childhood with restaurateur parents for inspiration; general manager Anthony De Lucia highlights the Chica Fresa (an espresso martini with tequila) as a favorite. There’s a full bar of visually appealing drinks and a robust menu featuring esquites, quesabirria, and those buñuelos, which De León says her mother would always make as a treat. La Patroncita is its own entity, does not take reservations, and is open for walk-ins Tuesday–Saturday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m." - Paolo Bicchieri
